You may ask the relevance, but this is yet another example of goverrnment interferring with the everyday lives of normal people. They also seem intent on doing the same with parents, as they invaribaly attempt to tell people what to do and how exactly they should behave. This is not totalarianism. not an extreme government with a point to prove but socialist democratic leaders in the supposadely open minded free and just soceity that is modern day britain.
you may ask how do i feel about the poor children being hurt? well, fifty years ago discipline of a physical nature was commonplace in virtually every household and what did that create, a nation intent on killing and violence, no it create the soceity that we know ande love, be it to varying extents ,today.
laissez faire attitudes of governments past have proved much more effective and perhaps would have not led to such a deepfounded mistrusting of all our politicians say.The message i have for the government is simple, with the exception of extreme cases corporal punishment causes less problems than it solves. and so leave the good people of this country alone.

Your 3 sentences on the actual subject matter were quite interesting! I agree that parents have a right to choose for themselves how to discipline a child, but do think smacking, if used at all, should be a last resort. Personally I've never smacked my son and yet he's an extremely well behaved child. I know of other parents who DO smack their children, and yet the children are still well out of control. Children follow by example at the end of the day.
