Advantages: Superb stadium, Should go straight back up
Disadvantages: Missing out on big local derbys
I would like to make it clear that I am a non-Huddersfield Town fan but I can't help feeling for the club as they were relegated from Division 1. A couple of seasons ago Huddersfield were challenging for promotion under manager Peter Jackson. Jackson was previously unknown and was to be Huddersfield's saviour, managing in a few games to squeeze out of the relegation zone at the end of the season. Fans were so delighted that the club made a video aptly titled 'The Great Escape'. The next season, while going for at least a playoff place, chairman Barry Rubery (a Leeds Utd fan) decided that he would bring a bigger name manager to the club in the form of Steve Bruce (Ex-Manchester Utd captain). Jackson has never had a job in football since. Bruce, whose first managerial job was to guide Sheffield Utd OUT of the playoffs, did the same for Huddersfield (and is currently doing so for Wigan!). Huddersfield suddenly slid down the table and missed out on a playoff spot, only to spend the rest of the next season (the season that has just ended) near or in the relegation zone. Bruce was sacked I think about mid-season. On 06/05/2001 Huddersfield lost 2-1 to Birmingham City, a game they did not deserve to lose. But their terrible fate was sealed when Crystal Palace scored a goal 3 minutes from time in their game, giving them three points for a win and relegating Huddersfield Town. It would have been great for Huddersfield next season as they would have been up against local teams such as Bradford, Barnsley, Sheffield Utd + Wednesday plus Man. City to name a few. Hopefully Lou Macari should bring them back up where they belong.

- 10/05/01 At the end of the day luck evens itself out, so no, league tables don't lie.
Still, relegation is a hard pill for anyone to swallow, and while I am glad that we (i.e. Palace) stayed up I felt for Huddersfield's fans. They've always seemed like a decent bunch and ultimately paid for not sacking Steve Bruce sooner. |

- 10/05/01 I'm a Pompey fan so I wasn't bothered who went down as long as it wasn't us. It was tough luck on them but you cant say they didn't deserve to go down as the table doesn't lie, although it was unlucky that Palace scored that lucky goal. I agree that they will come back up though |
