Advantages: Fashionable design, good value for money
Disadvantages: they shops are always very crowded at weekends!
Ikea has a wide range of bedroom furniture in a number of designs and a wide range of items in each design including blanket boxes, shoe racks and mirrors.
So what are the advantages of Ikea? Well it's cheaper than most furniture shops, the designs are excellent, and ther service is great.
So ok it's not the best quality but it's not bad either, I mean it's not antique furniture you want to keep forever anyway. The designs and colours are great and once you've got the basic furniture from Ikea you can add other items from other places like throws and cushions. By doing this you can complately change the feel of the room, so don't be put off if you don't like the minimalist look which Ikea in their displays, their furniture also fits well into nice cosy (cluttered even) rooms.
I feel the beds deserve a special mention, as the place I spend a high percentage of my time, having a comfortable bed is important. The beds at Ikea are great they are usually kingsize, which is great as it give you so much room, especially if you enjoy long lie ins with breakfast in bed and sunday newspapers you really can spread things out around you. When I bought my bed I selected the cheapest matress as I was on a budget at the time and intended to replace it later, 2 years later I still have it and have no plans to change it.
So what are ths disadvantages, personally I don't see any but I know some people don't like the fact you have to assemble the furniture yourself. I didn't find this a problem as the fact it was flat pack ment I could transport items in my car so I didn't have to pay deliever charges, or stay home waiting for a delivery all day only for it to arrive at 5pm! If you don't have a big car, you can hire a roof rack from Ikea or even a small van at very reasonable prices. As for assembling the furniture, it really isn't that difficult, I can't even change a plug without
unscrewing the back off of another one to copy what's inside, but Ikeas instructions are very good they are nice big pictures which are easy to follow. My advice is to beg, borrow or steal an electric screw driver this makes assembly so much quicker, and saves a lot of physical effort and blisters on your hands.
A good idea is to buy a few cases of beer and invite a group of friends round to help, this works particularly well if you have any competitive friends.
Finally after sales service at Ikea is excellent, I've only had to deal with their after sales staff once, this was because I'd lost a strange screw thing, I was actually worried as it was not the kind of screw you would find at B&Q and wasn't sure if Ikea would replace it that easily, in fact there was no problem what so ever even though it was my own fault I'd lost it in the first place, the staff immediately said they would replace it.
