welcome to my review which is about one of the best goalkeeper in the world iker casillas(in my opinion he is the best goalie) currently the captain of the Spanish national team and a key player for Real Madrid .In euro 2008 he was the stand out performer against Italy in the penalty shoot out and made many more outstanding saves in the following two games (the semifinal against Russia and the final against Germany) In this review I will include all the facts you need to know about iker like his time at Real Madrid, his full name ,his caps for club and country and much much more. This review is dedicated for karimkha because this review is about a Spaniard and one of her favorite players.

Iker casillas' personal facts

Iker Casillas Fernández was born on the 20th may 1981(he is only 27 years old and still reasonably young to carry on playing football ) in mostoles a small village on the borders of Madrid. He is quite short for a goalkeeper towering at only 185 centimeters. In Spain his nicknames are san iker or el santo.

Iker casillas' time at real Madrid

Casillas showed an emerging talent between the posts from an early age and his potential was soon recognized as real Madrid took him on as a youth he played for them from 1990-1998.Iker Casillas went through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and continued to impress with strong athletic performances and he got rewarded with a debut in real Madrid C in 1998 and immidietly caught the eye of some people which got him promoted to real Madrid B the following season.
It was then that he suddenly started to hit his top form and caught the eye of the first team coach which then got promoted to the first team in the same year

.He replaced the real Madrid goalkeeper Bodo Illgnerr for the rest of the season. In the year 1999-2000 iker casillas had stayed as real madrid's unfazed number one and played in real Madrid 3-0 victory over Valencia in the champions league final the 200-2001 season had no problem in goal and was virtually irreplaceable.
After a series of poor performances iker was dropped in the favour of ceasar sanchez in 2001-2002 season and did not start in the champions league finial against bayern leverkusen(which finished 2-1 to real Madrid) but to the joy of casillas and the pain of cesar sanches he got injured late in the game and casillas came off the bench to play his second champions league final. He made a couple of vital saves in the dying minutes of the game to make sure that the champions league went to the capital club. ever since that champions league final he has been tipped as one of the best goalies in the world(in my opinion he is the best in the world) and had won four Spanish leagues(zammora) in 2000-01, 2002-03, 2006-07, 2007-08 and came runner up in 1998-99, 2004-05, 2005-06.


Iker casillas' time with his country..Spain

Casillas was a member of the Spanish teams which won the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup and FIFA World Youth Championship in 1999.he made his full international debut against Sweden in 2000 and got rewarded with a call up to euro 2000 but unfortunately for iker Casillas he was an unused substitute.

2002 World Cup

He was selected to the Spanish national Team and ended up being the first choice goalkeeper at the 2002 FIFA World Cup held in South Korea and Japan later that year because Santiago canasarez was injured. Because of his performance, iker Casillas enjoyed hero status after Spain knocked out the Republic of Ireland in a penalty shoot-out to advance to the quarter-finals. After the FIFA World Cup and his performances against the Republic of Ireland and South Korea, he emerged as the first choice keeper for the national team.

Euro 2004
Casillas played in all eight Group 6 fixtures during Euro 2004 qualifying, conceding just four goals. He then kept goal in both legs of the play-off victory against Norway, keeping a clean sheet in Oslo. He then played as his country's goalkeeper at the Euro 2004 finals.


2006 World Cup

Casillas was his country's first-choice goalkeeper during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Spain was beaten by France 3-1 which marked the end of the 2006 campaign. During the tournament, he captained Spain twice.

Euro 2008
Casillas was the captain yet again for his country considering only 2 goals( Spain vs sweden and Spain vs Germany ending 2-1 and 1-0 respectivly)but not counting the ones scored against him in the penalty shoot out against Italy. He became the first ever goalkeeper to lift the European championships.


captaincy

No wonder iker casillas is the Spanish national team's captain and is real madrid's vice captain( after the irreplaceable Raul Gonzales Blanco ). When raul retires iker casillas will certainly be one of the contenders for the captains arm band(and for me certainly one of my favourites for the arm band) because he leads the back line really well, controls all the flaring tempers of the defenders, midfielders and attackers and always keeping the team moral up by cheering the players up when they feel down.

statistics

he has a total of 81 caps for the national team(up to date)and has kept more clean sheets than I can count(keeping In euro 2008 alone he kept 3 clean sheet). he played 90 minutes every game he played ( in total 450 minutes)

my verdict of iker casillas

in my opinion he is the best in the world and certainly worthy of that title. I think now with the performances he put in at the euro he may be the front runner(certainly a competitor) for the golden ball or as most people call it the ballon d'or and maybe even for the fifa world player award. Definitely he is one of the most successful goalkeepers ever. I think that iker casilas has the potential to play for around about 10 or more years and still be one of the best goalkeepers around. iker casillas is an idol to all children especially those who follow real Madrid , the Spanish national team and those youngsters who play goal keepers. Will he become spain's most capped, loved and cherished player? and will he become real madrid's best goalkeeper in their history ? this will all unravel with his upcoming years( good luck iker).
