Advantages: Had to be said
Disadvantages: People are scared
The vast majority of street crime is committed by young black men. The title says it all. I live in fear of being a victim of violent crime every time I step out of the door. Why? Because I'm a frail old lady in my 80s? Because I'm a vunerable young lad with a mobile phone? Or because I know the real facts behind violent street crime? Yes the latter only applies to me, but I deal with people in the first 2 categories on a daily basis. I work for the police as an administraton worker and I see the effects of street crime - robbery and theft from the person - first hand. Fact - Street Crime is on the increase. Fact - It destroys peoples lives Fact - The vast majority of street crime is carried out by young black men. This is not racist at all, in the very same way as stating that the majority of burglaries are carried out by young white, often drug-addled, males. The reason there is a disproportionate amount of black people in prison is because, from first hand experience, they are more likely to offend. Whether this is down to the government, institutionalised racism or down to the people themselves is another argument. The Stephen Lawrence murder was a tragedy, as any murder is. Yes the police were in the wrong for not securing the scene, obtaining the proper statements etc.. But this has become a handy shelter for young black men to hide behind. Violent crime is on the increase for one very good reason. The fact that police are scared to stop young black men in the street for fear of the consequences. The new stop and search powers available to the police, where the person is entitled to a copy of the search form, must be welcomed. The only people who will lose from this are the black people who are content to hide behind one very unfortunate incident that happened in London over 5 years ago.

- 10/07/07 loool. i`m a black youth and somehow i dont see how i am naturally more biased toward crime. that is what you are trying to suggest.
you dont seem to want to consider any other factors in it. the fact that you have`nt is the very base of the reason why such a thing takes place. think about it. |

- 11/10/02 Your opinion does seem a little biased, I live in an area were there are many different cultures live together. |

- 15/03/02 Poverty and lack of education and parental responsibility breeds criminals, no matter what colour skin. I suggest you read some sociological books to learn about the reasons why prisons have a disproportionate amount of blacks than whites (although some of the reasons are listed below anyway). Your opinion seems overly biased and as someone else states below you are not seeing the woods for the trees.
Hysterical media distortions and sensationalisms don't help matters either. |
