Immigration and asylumNewest Review: ... people. The Irish, Jewish, Polish and Ugandan, to name a few, have at one time or another been treated in this manner and arguably still are today, but that's another topic. Only if we could send the Media to rehab, their need for cold turkey in my opinion, is well and truly overdue. What surprises me is that, people often buy into the media hype that often paints a distorted picture of asylum seekers and refugees, and do not even question whether they are wrong or right. Apologies to those of you who know, but for those of you who do not, it is widely accepted that an 'Asylum Seekers' is someone who has fled their country because of ... more |

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of fuss people make about immigration and asylum. This is clearly a huge topic and I have chosen to focus on the rough and unfair press and treatment received by asylum seekers and refugees as opposed to the points based system or migration from Europe, that are topics within themselves. Unfortunately, the British Media has a habit, which borders on addiction, of 'scapegoating and villianising people. I think the new system of immigration control that is being proposed is a well over due control that is badly needed, the system i'm talking about is the one currently used in Australia, in which points are awarded to potential immigrants, and a point quota must be fuffiled to gain entry to the country. The points are awarded on the skills and potential use of that person in society. However this counrty will never be able to control immigration as we are still part of the EU, and EU legislation means that no real controls can be put on immigration, and leaving the EU would be a problem now as 75% of our trade comes through the EU, and so with the current economic ... Immigrants and asylum seekers are people like me and you, ordinary people; however genuine asylum seekers are extraordinary in that they have suffered in their country due to their belief or principles. A genuine asylum seeker doesn’t leave his/her country easily because they believe in change and feel passionate about the issue. Immigrant is a person who leaves their country to improve their life. Majority of Asylum Seekers are immigrants use situation to their advantage and faking reason of entry to this country. Other immigrants come here perfectly legally; East Europeans, Australians or it could be people from places still run by ... Read the complete review

My view is that immigration is usually if it's done right - good for the country especially if someone wants to better themselves and or their family, PROVIDED the money stays within the UK system and isn't salted away via western union accounts across the globe 'back home'. This needs serious addressing by the government its bleeding the country dry. I have a friend who came here in 2001 from poland initially to seek work, which he did, his wife and daugher joined him last year, he's just moved in to a lovely brand new house in a small Leicestershire village and they both work, albeit she has another little one on the way, and hats off to them. He pays his taxes works ... Read the complete review
