Advantages: Agressive, Leadership, Experience
Disadvantages: Getting old
THE "Guv'nor" was snapped up in a £1m bargain deal from Liverpool, after being told he no longer figured in Gerard Houllier's plans. His authoritative performances during his first season at the Riverside earned him a recall to the England team as a replacement for the injured David Batty, and Ince featured in all three of England's Euro 2000 games. A tough, ball-winning midfielder, Ince began his career at West Ham but it was at Manchester United that he established himself as one of the country's top players. At Old Trafford he formed a potent partnership with Bryan Robson as United dominated the domestic scene. Robson must have rated Ince highly as he signed him for Boro, in what is arguably one of his best signings Paul Ince has won Premiership, Cup and Cup Winners' Cup medals, as well as England caps, during his spell with Manchester United, Milan and Liverpool and most recently Boro. He has a wealth of experience and is able to read the game very well. Combative, competitive, aggressive and despite his age, Ince is still one of the best midfielders in the country. His leadership qualities are also important for Middlesbrough, so much so that he retained the skipper's armband after the arrival of England colleague Gareth Southgate in the close-season. There have been a lot of rumours recently that Ince wants to leave the Riverside, but he has denied all of these and committed himself to the Boro for the rest of his carrer. After hanging up his boots, I think that Ince has a future in the game eaither in a coaching or managerial capacity

- 05/09/01 not the player he once was, but still a class midfielder with passion and determination that isn't found in most footballers. i head he was on his way to wolves on a free transfer though |

- 22/08/01 Boro's Rock? A mis-spelling surely? Try a C next time |

- 22/08/01 I think that selling Ince was one of Houlliers biggest mistakes as at the time he was probably still the best player in his position in the country. Steven Gerrard could have learnt a lot from playing with Ince. |
