A couple of years ago a few teams got fined for not taking any real intrest in the Inter-Toto cup, and two years back my team the mighty West Ham won it and got into Europe. This gave West Ham a slight advandage over the lesser Premiship teams, because while the Hammers where playing competivie matches against forigen teams the others where playing teams like Rochdale and Exeter (there is nothing wrong with these teams, they are just the first ones that came into my head), meaning they had a slight head start. This also put them on a bit of a roll and give them a confidence boost which enabled them to start well. That was also West Hams best year as ... Read the complete review

The reason The Inter-Toto Cup is thought of as a joke is because of its name. I mean why on earth would some one give a competition such a stupid name. The Inter-Toto should be called 'Preliminary UEFA Cup Qualification', because at the end of the day that is what it is, plain and simple. Nobody makes fun of the teams competing in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League, so why do people mock clubs trying to qualify for one of the best club competition in Europe ? Last season teams like Newcastle United, Leeds and Chelsea sent letters to UEFA asking to be put in the hat for the Inter-Toto, the reason being if you want to attract ... Read the complete review

I can't believe how people can knock English teams for entering the Intertoto Cup. Its easy for us to point out that players need a break in the summer and the intertoto is a mickey mouse competition. But if one of the teams were to win the Intertoto cup and get into Europe in the Uefa Cup next season, I'm sure not only the fans of that team, but any English fan will be happy, as whenever an English team plays in Europe, ALL Fans in this country cheer them on because they are ENGLISH. Plus, if a team such as Newcastle or Aston Villa this season get into the Uefa Cup, it would not only be an extra bonus for the fans of the said team but also financially for ... I thought I would write my opinion about the Inter toto mainly because Newcastle United seem to want to use it to get into Europe next season. I've tried to come up with reasons why it would be a good thing to be in the competition but the only one I can really think of is the fact that it gets the team into europe. The biggest problem is simply that the competition starts so early it effects the clubs pre-season. Of course there are not to many good teams in it so many clubs would find it like playing a friendly but the fact is to get into the UEFA Cup you have to win it which means putting out your best 11 and hoping none of them get injured. ... I cannot understand why this competition is so maligned; it gives clubs that wouldn’t have a chance of getting into a Europe a chance to qualify for the UEFA cup and the extra revenue and glory that brings. I know of the arguments that it is a waste of time and that players need to rest in the summer not have extra games, but when the matches for this competition are played most clubs are in pre-season training and playing meaningless friendlies as practice for the forthcoming season or are on tours anyway. Surely it is better preparation for the coming season to have competitive matches as practice, even if they fail to qualify for Europe, the games ... Read the complete review
