How can you control the net? (Internet Censorship)

This is a very difficult one to even try and sort out. For a start, the internet is worldwide, which means that in some countries it might be legal to view something which is illegal to view in this country, so how would you say ‘that’s not allowed and should be taken off the internet’ when in another country, under it’s own rules it could be valuable information. Of course, there is stuff on the net which I can positively say should not be allowed, or should be restricted. Things like child porn, how to harm other people and very hard pornography (not just the usual stuff, the sicker stuff) all fall into this category.

At the moment, an innocent child who knows nothing about bombs but has a little bit of computer/internet experience could find out lots of information about them, hey, they could even find out how to make one if they look hard enough! So, they have seen a cartoon and want to know a bit more about bombs, very innocently they stumble across a page about how to make one and think ‘ok, I’ll give it a go’ thinking that they are not going to do much harm. So, there is that side of the net that does need looking at.

But, how do you deal with these types of problems? Those net nanny programs are all well and good, but it’s not just kids who need regulating on the net. There are a lot of twisted adults out there aswell where the internet acts as a bible to them.

I could go on forever talking about this subject, but to come to a conclusion, there is no way at the moment that the internet can be controlled. It is up to us, the internet users to control ourselves. But, if you are out to find information on the best way to injure someone to cause the most pain over a long period of time etc, then the internet is probably the place to find it (not that I’d know, the worst thing I’ve done on here is look at a bit of porn, but I don’t think that ever hurt anybody, if it di
d, half the internet population would have turned into raving looneys by now!)

All we can do is wait for a bright spark to come up with some sort of solution to control the internet, if that is at all possible. If it is, they’ll end up on the richest people list in no time!
