Advantages: mass appeal, diversity of information, fast and up to date

Disadvantages: can be used to pry on children, not regulated, illeagal material

I have been hooked on the internet for years. I find all the information I want on the web and I have discovered things I did not know all thanks to the world wide web. This, however, does not mean I am a geek I am a final year honors law student and therefore rely on the web for research and access to up to date information from accross the world. I also use the internet to make money as I joined a get paid to surf group and I also make money by getting emails. I do not make much money but as a student it all helps.
The internet has mass appeal as it so diverse and allows people from different coutries and backgrounds to communcate. It increases our knowledge and allows us to read about and discover things that otherwise we would not have discovered. It allows families who live in different courties to communicate quickly and share photos and experiences. It allows the housebound to communicate with people and chat to people.
The internet has a lot of online support groups which can help people face and recover from their experiences without having to face the harrowing prospect of talking to someone face to face.

Above I have listed the positive side of the internet, however, the other side has to be considered. The internet at the moment is unregulated allowing unscrupulus people to pry on innocent children and conmen to rob people a bogus website is easy to set up. The internet has a lot of material on it that i think should be regulated but that is only my opinion but does anyone need to see child porn or be told how to make a bomb. This is the murkier side of the internet that is not celebrated and until recently not discussed they say we are not at danger from the above unless we look for it. Unfortunatley it is all to easy for curious children to find, a simple innocent website can have a darker side such as a chat room, or a scam which will sound very real. I believe that the internet should be regulated if only to protect innoc
ent victims, and every ISP should provide the very best in parental control.

The murkier side of the internet does not put me off as everyone has to much to gain from having access to the web, but everyone should be aware of the dangers that are lurking.
