Description: Sports: Football / Sport Topic: Football Clubs & Teams / Ipswich Town Football Club (also known as Ipswich, The Blues, ... more
Ipswich Town F.C. ... Town or The Tractor Boys) are an English professional football club based in Ipswich, Suffolk. As of 2007, they play in the Football League Championship, and they last appeared in the FA Premier League in 2001–02. The club was founded in 1878 but did not play as a professional club until 1936, and were subsequently elected to join the Football League in 1938. They play their home games at Portman Road in Ipswich. The only fully professional football club in Suffolk, they have a long-standing and fierce rivalry with East Anglian rivals Norwich City, their nearest neighbours to the north in Norfolk, with whom they have contested the East Anglian Derby 134 times since 1902. Ipswich won the English league title once, in 1961–62, and have been runners-up twice. They won the FA Cup in 1977–78, and the UEFA Cup in 1980–81.

Premium Review Ipswich Town F.C.: Ipswich town review under new investment (357 words)

I have supported Ipswich for atleast 18 years. I remember my first game when i was just a young lad with my dad against Sheffield Wednesday and we drew 2-2 with John Wark scoring two. I have seen the highlights: Getting promotion to the premier league via the play offs at wembley beating Barnsley 4-2, and the following season finishing 5th in the Premier league quality for the uefa cup beating the likes of Liverpool at anfield 1-0. I have also seen the bad times : Being relegated from the Premier league the next season and being put into administration and battling to stay in the Championship. Premium Review Should Ipswich go for Promotion this year.....No! (815 words)

Are Ipswich going to get promoted this Season? In a word I would say no and without coming over incredibly negative, as a Town fan I don't think it would do us any good getting promoted yet, we'd struggle, really struggle and drop straight back down losing all of our best players in the process. The last time Ipswich were in the Premier League we had bided our time in the Championship, developing an attractive style of football that sometimes destroyed teams and occasionally lost out to more physical teams, the fact we played football worked really well on promotion as our players were fully prepared technically and mentally for the challenge and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ipswich Town F.C.: If the cap fits. wear it! (1097 words)

There has been a long debate within football on whether player wage capping should be introduced. Should there even be a debate though when my beloved Ipswich Town have fallen into administration. Voluntary administration or not, Ipswich are in big trouble. In the current situation the crippling player wages are ruining English football in a time of financial difficulties spreading through every club from Arsenal to Exeter. For a club supposedly in safe financial foundations two seasons ago when they entered the Premiership, it is a measure of how bad things really are when Ipswich begin to struggle financially. The last form of wage capping was in the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sexy Football (404 words)

Forget Ruud and his saying, i think Ipswich Town are the new team who play sexy football. Well last season they did anyway. Coming 5th in the premiership after coming through via the play offs and not spending a huge amount of money the summer before, Ipswich acheived the unthinkable last season and qualified for Europe. They haven't actually got any big named players, although they are big named now. Its just the team work around for each other and everyone gives 100% effort. You will very rarely see a scrapy Ipswich, as they are usually form flowing moves. Of course they are bound to score a few scrappy goals (like in the uefa cup 1st round), but then all ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ipswich Town F.C.: They are in Europe just (270 words)
by - written on 05/10/01 (Useful, 51 readings)

Ipswich town have done very well since coming back into the Premiership a season ago. They did superb last season by securing a place in Europe after coming up from division one. Ipswich do not have many top names in their squad but manage incredible well. I feel the main reason for their success was because of their great manager George Burley and also with a little help from their goal machine Marcus Stewart who scored over 25 goals last season for the club. This season they were lucky to get through to the second stage of Europe after drawing at home and just winning away, but the thing is they got there. They are lacking in the league ...  Read the complete review
