I’ve been attending the cinema since I was about knee high to a grasshopper, my first experience being the “Saturday Morning Matinee” for the local schoolkids, where you got in for a mere old sixpence, and not only got to watch that week’s feature film but also got a weekly serial like “Hopalong Cassidy”, “Batman”, or “Flash Gordon” thrown in for good measure. An ice lolly, a packet of five Woodbines, and an almighty scramble each week to get a seat in the very front row are my abiding memories. Then I became a teenager and began to take slightly more interest in girls than merely calling them names or pulling their hair, and the back row of the balcony became ... Read the complete review

My question here is, is the experience going downhill, or is there other factors there that affect your viewing that are not controlled by the management. We all like to go out, and many moons ago now i used to love going to my local cinema to see the latest releases. However i now go very rarely, and started to think to myself why is that? Well, its a combination of bad experience, and bad releases that are to blame for me. Most things that tend to go wrong at the cinema are not controlled by the cinema themselves. You know what i mean, the guy who doesn't switch off his mobile, and it rings in the middle of the film, which coincidentally ... Read the complete review

As a film buff, I felt I just had to suggest this topic for speakers corner! Going to the cinema has always been a pastime that has been important to me – from when I was very young up until the present day. It’s a form of sheer escapism which can be a very welcome way to pass a few hours when the world outside of that darkened room is tumultuous. I have some very happy memories of visiting the cinema over the years – starting from my childhood years: -------------------------------------------------- The Gratuitous Rose-Tinted Glasses Bit -------------------------------------------------- When E.T. the Extra Terrestrial was ... I am so glad that I logged onto dooyoo today and somebody had suggested this topic as I am absolutely sick of the cinema lately and my most recent experience really hit home that some cinemas are just not worth going to at all now. I love the cinema experience and I do not think it is all going downhill I just think that in certain cinemas they need to sort their acts out but unfortunately this is spreading. I will tell you about my experiences of good and bad cinemas but will not name names or areas as I think that would be unfair. ----- The Good Cinema Experience: There is just one cinema now that I go to that I know when I do go I ... There isn't much to do where I live as most places of activity are now lame and broken! We do have a cinema though which looks horrible from the outside! It only has 3 screens, 1 of which is large and the other 2 are quite small (Usually used when the film is phasing out). I used to love going to the cinema when I was younger, picking sweets and popcorn and large slush puppies that your parents paid for! When you get older you realise how expensive it is! Why would you want to pay £4.00 for a small pick and mix when Tesco is a 5 minute walk away? We always go there to stock up and then sneak it in which I'm sure they wouldn't be happy about if they ... Read the complete review
