Advantages: Better facilities, better seats
Disadvantages: Some other viewers are a lot more annoying
When I think about going to the cinema when I was a kid it was an awesome experience go with the family or with some mates, have a little tub of ice cream, get there really early and get really excited about the film. From the start of the trailers we were enthralled, the adverts could be good or bad but they were on an enormous screen and this was a special treat because we only did it ocassionally. Do I think the experience has gone downhill, well if i'm honest i'm in two minds as a cultural experience its great for kids to enjoy cinema to enhance their imaginations and develop their minds, but is there a risk of overload? Can you go too much?
For me I enjoy the occasional visit but am shocked at people turning up late during performances actually speaking on mobile phones during the film or laughing and shouting with mates, this is a definite degeneration of the experience and theres nothing worse than sitting in a film with a bunch of thugs just wanting it all to end.
Have films got any better, I think from a technological view they have got better, but in terms of dramatisation and effect sometimes a facial expression is worth a hundred CGI images, when we think of romance we think of 'From here to eternity' or Dr Zhivago, people strive to emulate old films which were on tighter budgets but had real stories.
The experience as a whole is entirely down to the individual I think the cinema is a personal experience and for me I lose myself in it, so its no better or worse than before the people around me are often worse, the facilities and seating are often better. The food is still pretty bland and overpriced, but overall cinema is wonderful and always will be its about losing yourself, so the experience is always controlled by you.
Summary: Cinema is a personal experience so make it special.

- 16/03/09 It is just a case of making sure that you tell the staff as soon as any trouble starts. I dont mind missing a few seconds of a film if it means the noisy people will be watched and chucked out. I watch most of the films I see in the cinema if they come out there that is! |

- 16/03/09 Sat next to some teenage girls on Saturday who spent most of their time texting or going in and out of the screen for some reason - why bother paying? :o) |

- 16/03/09 I went to the cinema 2 days ago and there was a family sat next to us with a small child around 2, why bring them?! they don't watch it and make so much noise, kicking the floor, talking in a little sqeaky voice 'mummy whats happening' and the parents constantly SHHHHHHHHHHing them...which is even more annoying! |
