Advantages: Watching a film!
Disadvantages: Noisy people, thin walls, expensive food!
There isn't much to do where I live as most places of activity are now lame and broken! We do have a cinema though which looks horrible from the outside! It only has 3 screens, 1 of which is large and the other 2 are quite small (Usually used when the film is phasing out). I used to love going to the cinema when I was younger, picking sweets and popcorn and large slush puppies that your parents paid for! When you get older you realise how expensive it is!
Why would you want to pay £4.00 for a small pick and mix when Tesco is a 5 minute walk away? We always go there to stock up and then sneak it in which I'm sure they wouldn't be happy about if they knew!
The prices have gone up each year and around now £6.40 for a standard ticket! What's worse is most of the time when we go no one is waiting on the door to seat you in your check your tickets so you may well of not even bothered buying one! The screening themselves are good because there is always a different atmosphere when a huge group of people are watching something, all laughing at the same time and being silent because something sad is on. But then in these parts you can often hear noises from other screenings! Thin walls or what? Also the staff can be friendly but mostly they're spotty teenagers who don't listen to you...
There's also those people who talk the whole way through or make loads of noise with the sweet bags they have; what's the point in coming to the cinema is no one around you can hear it?! I went a few days ago and next to us were a family consisting of a mum, 2 children (one aged 2 and the other about 12) and the grandparents I'm guessing. The 2 years old was talking the whole way through and kicking the chairs in front of us! The mum and sister kept SHHHHing really loud...but didn't do much about it!
Even though I don't think it's great at this cinema it's the closest one to me and when you want to see a new film you've got to go!
Summary: Not a great experience but not a terrible one either...

- 06/11/09 We've got a brand new six screen Vue here though I haven't been yet. |

- 29/04/09 The prices are ridiculous. Going to the cinema with my bf on a whim costs about £25 quid, £7.50 each for the tickets, and a tenner for two medium cokes and a large popcorn. Of course, we try to plan, rather than go on a whim, as then we can buy packs of Butterkist and bottles of coke far cheaper en route :)
People are really rude in the cinema too. Young teenagers especially (the 13-16 age group seem the worst) seem to talk / giggle / fight / mess around all the way through. |

- 18/03/09 I think the prices for food are disgusting! I don't mind the ticket price half as much as being asked £3 for a flat lemonade...I must admit, I am a sneaker inner of goodies maself!
Our local cinema isn't so bad but it takes them AGES to get a new film in. Think we got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on!
Nah...only kidding but it is sloooooooowww round here! |
