Italy National Football Team ... Italy is among the top teams in international football and the second most successful national team having won four World Cups (1934, 1938, 1982, 2006), just one fewer than Brazil. To this tally they can add one European championship (1968), two Central European International Cup and one Olympic Gold Medal (1936). The Azzurri won their fourth World Cup, defeating France in Berlin, on July 9, 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time. French captain Zinedine Zidane opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a tricky penalty kick, controversially awarded for a foul by Materazzi. Twelve minutes later, a header by Materazzi, from a perfectly placed corner by Pirlo, scored the equalizer. In the second half, a headed goal by Toni was nullified for an offside. At 110', Zidane was sent off after a head butt, provoked by an insult directed at him by Materazzi; the two players were eventually fined by the FIFA. Italy then won the penalty shoot-out 5-3, after David Trézéguet's attempt hit the crossbar and Italy scoring on all five attempts, Grosso converting the final penalty past French keeper Barthez. Ten different players scored for Italy and five goals out of twelve were scored by substitutes, while four goals were scored by defenders. Seven players - Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Pirlo, Gennaro Gattuso, Totti and Toni - were named to the 23-man tournament All Star Team. Buffon also won the Lev Yashin Award, given to the best goalkeeper of the tournament; he conceded only two goals in the tournament, the first an own goal by Zaccardo and the second from Zidane's penalty, and remained unbeaten for 460 consecutive minutes.

From that moment on, Korean team disappeared...their efforts to goal (not many to be honest) were cleverly stopped by the Italian defender. Premium Review Italy National Football Team: Who's(e) that man???? (702 words)

Guess you already know who i am talking about...the Ecuadorean referee, one called Mr. Byron Moreno. And guess you already know what i am going to write about...the scandalous refereeing in the match played yesterday South Korea-Italy. And guess many of you have seen what happened and therefore understand the reason why Italy is shocked by the final result. As many of you know (and ralise from this opinion) English is not my mother tongue and maybe that's a good thing otherwise you would hear me yelling at that "man" in black who robbed us an important match yesterday. For those of you who don't know where i am from...Italy of course. ...  Read the complete review

A continental newspaper recently made the point in mock outrage that World Cup games starting in the morning and wondered at the Italians ability to cope. They like to watch the game over an evening meal with the family, and now will have to fit 10:00 starts around work. This still did not stop over a third of the whole country tuning in to watch a confident and stylish performance against Ecuador in their first game, a performance that only heightened their chances after disappointing performances by other favourites like France, England and Brazil. Italy are one of the most accomplished European teams of all times. A role of honour stretching to ...  Read the complete review

Ah!,meaningless friendlys in March.A great time for clubs to rest their star players or pick up a few season finishing injuries!.Wednesdays match against World Cup defensive artisans Italy epitomizes all the reasons why its crazy to play mid week games like these. The Italians swooned up straight from the sunbed spring of the Rivera in their designer colbolt blue shirts that were slicker than the hair and football put together. We havent beaten these guys since the nights comentator in Trevor Brooking graced the green Wembley turf. With the purr of mopeds outside of Elland Road and most Italian restaurants in Yorkshire opening much later, the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review looking for good midfielder (248 words)

Italy will try to win the next Worldcup in Japan and Korea. They have a great defense with Nesta, Cannavaro and Maldini as starters and Materazzi, Iuliano, Panucci and Ferrara ready to take their place if they get injured. Great offense, Alex Del Piero and Cristian Vieri are probably one of the best offense line in the world. Totti seems to be the right man to produce the necessary assists for those strong forwards. Montella, Inzaghi and Del Vecchio could be helpful if Vieri or Del Piero get injured. But Italy has a terrible problem in the midfielder line. Albertini and Di Biagio arent't up to do their work in the national team. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Italy National Football Team: The lastminute.com of football! (156 words)

Italy is the one team that will always qualify at the last possible minute for the various World or European championships, completely underperform in the friendly matches during the pre-championship season and then, somehow, reach the semi-final or final. Their attitude to the game has always been that of defending hard (anyone remember Gentile marking Zico and Maradona in 1982?) and playing on the counter-attack with some quick forward. Particularly because of this tactical preference, Italy has never managed to fully exploit its many talents (Bettega, Antognoni, Vialli, Baggio, Totti and who knows in the future). Furthermore, when things get tough, ...  Read the complete review
