Premium Review Goran Ivanisevic: Fourth Time Lucky (746 words)
by - written on 08/11/01 (Very useful, 63 readings)
Rating:

After 3 distressing failed attempts at clinching the Wimbledon singles title, the ever-amusing Croatian, Goran Ivanisevic finally took this momentous crown in 2001. His endearing character has won him many fans throughout his tennis career but this has also been his downfall on some occasions. Since first showing up on the ATP tour, Goran has brought excitement, unpredictability and a sense of humour into the tennis fray and with this has caused havoc to the world of tennis. He has become infamous worldwide for his left-handed style (we creative left-handers are a special breed!!) as he is able to thunder rocket propelled missiles across the net, more often ...  Read the complete review

Out of the depths and amongst the cries of "hes past it" and "hang up your racket" ha emerged a Wimbledon champion. Ranked abround 150 odd in the world, Goran was tossed into the tournament as a wild card by the All England Club to make up the numbers and provise a bit of entertainment for the fans. Well, he certainly entertained! Gorans main weapon is his bullet like serve, which can pin many an opponent back onto the base line. The Croat is also a good shot maker and has amazing spirit and determination, as he showed against Tim Henman in the semi-finals, where he turned it around after staring defeat straight in the face. He isn't the ...  Read the complete review

Goran Ivanisevic: He got what he deserved and about time to. (205 words)

Goran well done my son i could not think of anybody that has had more heartbreak at Wimbledon. Ok so he looked awful at queens and got in on a wild card but he just proved to me what i already knew and that is he is a true champion. I was as upset as the rest of the country when tim went out to him but i also really wanted him to go on and win. When he accepted the trophy and held it up to the heavens so his best friend who died not long ago could see that he had one it for him i was chuffed what a man what conviction to lose three times in the final and keep coming back truely a star. On returning to his homeland he got the ovation and ...  Read the complete review

In the Wimbledon tennis final of 2001 a valuable lesson should be learnt by all. This is that you should never lose sight of your dreams and that effort and perseverence will often bring the greatest of rewards. Watching Goran Ivanisevic throughout the tournament showed just how much winning Wimbledon meant to him and for this volatile Croatian it meant everything. If he had lost I think it would have taken many years to really get over it but I think now that even if he never wins another tournament he will be a changed man. Positive thoughts will now fill his life forever and he will now be so much more contented knowing he is a winner. We can all draw ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Goran Ivanisevic: Well done Goran! (455 words)
by - written on 12/07/01 (Very useful, 49 readings)

I just wish to congratulate Goran Ivanisevic on winning his first Grand Slam tournament, fittingly the one he wanted the most, Wimbledon. It has not been a happy record in the famous SW19 address for the Croatian, he has been losing finalist three times (twice to Sampras and once to Agassi) in his career, before making it fourth time lucky in 2001. Goran Ivanisevic was born in Split, Croatia on the 13th September 1971, making him 29 when he won Wimbledon this year. He turned pro in 1988 and is tall, 1.94 meters or 6ft 4 inches and plays left handed. He is most renowned for his awsome serve, regularly over 130mph. It is not just his speed and power of serve that ...  Read the complete review
