Jigsaws An assortment of pieces.

Jigsaws

Jigsaws for any stage of development can be found simple two-piece jigsaws up to jigsaws with 10000’s of pieces. Ones where you join/ link the pieces together and insert jigsaws where you place the pieces in holes in a wooden tray some of these have a picture connected to the piece you place e.g. if you are placing an apple it might have a picture of a tree under it or another apple. Jigsaws with pegs on the pieces ones with knobs on for easy placing.
Jigsaws can be done by people of any age from small tots to elderly people

I have worked children for many a year, so have used lots of jigsaws.

Jigsaws help develop eye hand coordination and fine motor skills help with shape matching and help develop attention skills.
All these skills are important to develop as they help with pencil control, writing and reading.
Completing a puzzle give a feeling of success of achievement.
Jigsaws are a toy that can be used at home it is good to sit with your child and help them to complete a jigsaw.

My daughter loved jigsaws as a child, as a teenager she became ill and weak unable to do much physical exercise or concentrate on tasks for long a jigsaw was perfect. Something to do that did not require a lot of concentration for a long time something she could have on the coffee table by her side and just do one or two pieces then rest, feel an achievement when she finished it days /weeks later.
I would recommend a jigsaw, as something to do while recovering from an illness it is something not too taxing to keep you occupied.

The problem with jigsaws is their price but you can buy them second hand from a charity shop. A problem here might be that some of the pieces might be missing, but a good shop will have checked them over.

I recently purchased an eight piece inset puzzle from my local Ian Rennie charity shop in my home town for baby Adrian it has
simple animal shapes and a tractor the pieces are attractively coloured to keep a child’s interest. When he gets old enough, about 2 we shall give it to him. Maybe it is a bit premature buying it now but it was only 40p in excellent condition a new one would have cost me about £4 .

Another cheap way is to make your own jigsaws. Get a picture (adverts in magazines are good) and stick it on a piece of card then cut it into as many pieces as you like now place them together. A good one to do is a face as you can cut the eyes out the nose, the mouth. Use the puzzle as a teaching aid for learning facial features.
Making jigsaw puzzles is also a good rainy day activity.

Well have fun with your jigsaw puzzles must go breakfast is ready Have a good and prosperous new year. Mary

I used to love doing Jigsaws, you won't believe it, but me and my husband did one on our honeymoon. Now I buy them my mum, she loves them.

I bought my dad one of those photomosaic images done as a jigsaw for his present this year - I think it will take him until next xmas to complete it! Happy new year, BTW.
