Advantages: Better than he is given credit, strong, great header and good organiser
Disadvantages: Has had a lot of bad press through his own making
Chelsea and England Captain, John Terry has a heart as big as a house, unfortunately for him there have been moments when his brain hasn't quite matched his heart, however fingers crossed we have a centre half from Essex as captain, maybe it could be a lucky omen for next year!!
Born in 1980 in Barking, Terry was located around the West Ham area from a young age, A one club man, Terry has been with Chelsea for over 15 years, joining the club as a 14 year old trainee, he progressed through the youth and reserve ranks and finally got a taste of first team action at the age of 18 as a substitute against Aston Villa in the League Cup.
As Terry became a regular member of the first team squad he had his first taste of controversy after a long and lengthy court case following somebody accusing him of glassing them in a flash London bar, unfortunately this kind of controversy has dogged the player ever since.
Terry eventually began to establish himself in the Blues first team in 2001 under Gianluca Vialli, he played alongside the legendary Marcel Desailly and claims to have learnt an incredible amount from this huge personality, both about playing the game and understanding it more.
Terry has been a regular in the team ever since and was made Captain of the Club by Jose Mourinhjo following Desailly's retirement, this role suited Terry down to the ground, he is passionate about the club and is a great organiser, he has so far played 261 games for the club and scored 17 goals, many in vital games, he is a deadly header of the ball and always a threat from set pieces. Many will remember John Terry as the man who missed a penalty in the Champions League final loss to Manchester United last season, but Terry stood up when many of his team mates bottled it and the fact he took one at all as a no nonsense centre half is a measure of the man.
Terry has two Premier League titles under his belt as captain during Mourinho's eventful stewardship, he also has an FA Cup winners medal and two league cup winners medals, he has been voted in the Champions League team of the season on two occasions and was voted in the team of the World Cup in 2006.
Terry is married with twin babies and credits his wife with calming him down, he did used to appear in the headlines for all the wrong reasons and it is good to see him let his football do the talking.
Terry is a passionate England player, he has 51 caps, scoring 6 goals. He has played in one World Cup and one European Championships and his partnership with the outstanding Rio Ferdinand is considered the platform to build the team around, Terry is the captain of the team and talks a great game, he is passionate and understands the fans although there are occasionally questions about his technical ability, he has been made captain of teams by Fabio Capello, Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink, three of the best managers on the planet.
Terry is a hard as nails centre back who puts his head in where others won't put their feet, he is brave, two footed, a strong header and great organiser, he is faster than he looks and he is reallty under-rated, he can bring the ball out from the back and distribute it and I think we will see himn and Ferdinand improve further before the next world cup, hopefully giving us a strong platform to chase the Spain's and Argentina's of the world.
Summary: England's Passionate Heart
