Karting in General ... thrills theme. It's so much more flexible than most other motor sports whilst still combining all the elements of professional racing. Karting has already established itself as the first step on the ladder to motor racing success, and besides - it's fun! Karts vary in speed and some (Superkart) can reach speeds exceeding 160 mph (250 km/h). A Formula A kart, with a 100 cc 2 stroke engine and an overall weight including the driver of 150 kilograms, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 85 mph (140 km/h). It takes a little more than 3 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph with a 125 cc shifter kart (6 gears), with a top speed of 115 mph (185 km/h) on long circuits. Kart racing is generally accepted as the most economic form of motorsport available. As a free-time activity, it can be performed by almost anybody, and as a motorsport in itself, it is one of the sports regulated by FIA (under the guise of CIK), permitting licensed racing for anyone from the age of 8 onward.

The cornering grip of the tire is not at its maximum because I am not turning very sharply at the early part of the corner. A percentage of the tire's grip is utilized while the other percentage is used for braking. Gradually easing off the braking as I turn the kart more ... more

Premium Review Karting in General: Karting - when to brake (554 words)
by - written on 16/02/09 (Very useful, 102 readings)

Karting - When to brake I believe acceleration is the key to winning any kart race, but I also think how a driver brakes is equally important. Karting drivers use a term called "trail braking," a manoeuvre that prevents a loss of exit speed coming around a corner. Trail braking is applying the brakes late and deep into a corner. That allows the rear of the kart to slide into the corner, making for a straight shot out the exit on to the straightaway. The key to trail braking in karting is to understand your tires and visualize the turn before it happens. I try not to be concerned about spinning out while turning as I brake ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Chequered Flag Karting Leeds (172 words)

Chequered Flag indoor karting is brand new and the owners have done a fantastic job and developed a great track with safety, comfort and style! I took my son karting last weekend, he really enjoyed the training programme that they have and will hopefully with a few more lessons be joining in with thier summer championship event for junior karters. He was a little slow to begin with but soon got the hang of it and was zooming around the track. You really do have to be quite fit to last a full hour! The venue is really easy to find only a 5 minute walk from Guiseley Train Station. From the outside it looks like your average working mill, but once ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Karting in General: Karted Off (764 words)

I recently rediscovered karting after a good few years absence, and am very glad I did. It is easily one of the most enjoyable sports, and more accessible than many people may realise. My local track is a short on, in Ipswich. Lap times are between 16 seconds if you're good and 22 seconds if you're bad. The facility itself is basically a large warehouse, with the track, balcony section and changing rooms. You must sign in to kart and either sign to say you have watched the safety video or watch it before you go. Normally prices are £9 for 12 laps or £18 for 36 laps, however some days offer double laps or special rates for groups and parties. You ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Pole Position - Leeds (1084 words)

Rating:

My experience of karting is fairly limited having only dirven on three different circuits on four occaisions so my opinion is based on the most recent experiences on what I consider to be the best venue I have encountered. The "Pole Position" Leeds venue is reletively new, being opened earlier this year but the owner has a good deal of experience having already got a well established venue in neighbouring Bradford. Location -------- The circuit is located about a mile from Leeds city centre, you head out of town on the Hunslett road. It's not easy to find and not all that well sign posted so you are advised to check ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Karting in General: TKM 2 Stroke - PLease tell me whats going to happen to it! (346 words)

What is going to happen to the TKM engine? That is the question that myself and many TKM 2 stroke engine owners are asking. I race at club level and have only being racing TKM?s for about 3 years, winning best novice in my first season of racing, and winning the senior club championship the following year. The TKM engine is a very durable engine, and with my budget this is why I chose this product. I have a BT82, a UK made engine which is a 100cc Piston-Port engine with optional clutch in my class. Drivers have to be aged 16 years or over, and weight: 145kg (Min. Kart & Driver). Speeds in the region of 70mph can be reached, and rebuilds are needed after about ...  Read the complete review
