Kids in the KitchenNewest Review: ... my son in helping me in the kitchen. I've bought a few childrens cook books over the years and my son now ages 11 loves choosing a recipe from one of these books . He usually chooses a recipe on a saturday morning and then we go through the ingredients together, he then writes a list of all the things we need to buy. We then visit the local shop to get any ingredients we need . Cooking with my son has been some of the most fun times i've enjoyed with him as he's growing up. For me i get to help him learn new skills, talk to him about things in a relaxed way as we all know boys are not big talkers. He gets to improve a large range of ski... more |

In this age where kids want to be on electronic game systems any chance they get its great to involve them in a essential life skill. Of course be carefull and only give the child tasks that suit his development and be aware of saftey whilst in the kitcen From an early age i've involved my son in helping me in the kitchen. My 5 year old daughter and I have a great time in the kitchen. She loves the fact that now she's big enough to help mummy make things. Usually a big mess but where's the fun if there's no mess. We have an understanding where she gets to do all the preparing and cleaning up but I will be in control of the cooker. In my opinion all kids should get to help out in the kitchen even if it is only for a short time and start by doing something simple like Krispie cakes. My daughter is now at the stage that she can make herself a sandwich if she wants and can even make scrambled egg, in the microwave almost independant of my help. I crack the eggs and ... My partner and I have 4 children between us aged from 10 to 14. We try to eat as a family at least 5 nights a week, usually a home cooked from scratch meal. One Wednesday, having made a special effort and cooked on this occasion three separate meals, all the kids did was moan and groan about the food. I announced that the next day I was going on food strike and was not going to prepare any meals. The kids all laughed their socks off....until breakfast time when we stayed upstairs and they had to get their own cereals and toast. On opening the fridge, there were no packed lunches ready. Muttering under their breath, the oldest two organised a production line of buttering ... Read the complete review

I love cooking and the messier it is the better. I believe every child/person should know basic food hygiene, nutrition and cookery. I once had to teach a friend the same age as myself how to cook an omelette and the father of my child didn't know what a leek was or how to cook it. I don't believe you can expect a child to eat heathily if they don't know the value of their food or how be hygienic in the kitchen if you never do it with them or show them. I'm very fortunate my mother showed us kids how to cook and we were involved in every way (including washing up). I think children need educating when it comes to domestication. My brother ... When I saw this catagory had no guidelines written under it the title was too tempting for me not to respond to. You see the first thing I thought of was "Yes Please". There's the washing up, the cleaning of the oven, the use of the washing machine and the dreaded mopping of the laminate so take your pick kids. Seriously though I know most of the reviewers have concentrated on baking and cooking along with your kids and I will come to that later but I wanted to put a few other ideas out there first so that we can turn our kids into responsible adults who know how to do the simplest tasks that most of us mums do every day without any thanks or even ...
