My 5 year old daughter and I have a great time in the kitchen. She loves the fact that now she's big enough to help mummy make things. Usually a big mess but where's the fun if there's no mess.

We have an understanding where she gets to do all the preparing and cleaning up but I will be in control of the cooker.

In my opinion all kids should get to help out in the kitchen even if it is only for a short time and start by doing something simple like Krispie cakes. My daughter is now at the stage that she can make herself a sandwich if she wants and can even make scrambled egg, in the microwave almost independant of my help. I crack the eggs and she does the rest.

I think the fact that she has spent so much time in the kitchen with both myself and my grandmother that she is more than capable of doing simple things on her own.

I have to admit that the reason I have so much confidence in the fact that she knows where to stop and why the cooker is dangerous is because I read the review that someone has put in this category and tried the pot of with two shot glasses of cold water in it and let her curiosity kick in and now having got such a fright at the outcome she will not touch the cooker unless I say so.

The kitchen is such a great place to be and if you can share it with a child you should as they learn through the fun that you have and also get a great sense of achievement when they see what they have managed to make. It is a great way to spend quality time, and you can make whatever you want and as much mess. The fact that they then have to help you clean up I have found teaches them that if they make a mess anywhere that they have to at least attempt to tidy it up.

Summary: Teach Them Young And It Will Serve Them Well Later In Life
