Advantages: Relaxing, Easy to master
Disadvantages: None
Knitting is a very popular past time, as well as being a good way to save money. Unusual and beautiful yarns are made especially for hand knitting and new designs and instructions are being produced all the time to meet popular demand. The most popular items that people knit are sweaters, cardigans and accessories such as hats, gloves and scraves. You can buy knitting patterns in wool shops, and they are printed free in most popular magazines. People think it is hard to knit large itmes but it isn't once you have learnt the basic stiches, and once you can understand and follow a pattern, you'll find it easy to knit almost anything. Once you have learned to cast on stiches then can do the two basic stiches knit and purl, you are off. The next thing to learn is how to increase, which is making extra stiches, and decrease which is making less stiches, then learning how to cast off the stiches you've finsihed. These are basically all the things that you need to know for making simple things, but if you want to make Aaron sweaters or striped jumpers, these are harder but you will learn how to make them as you become a more competant knitter. At first I could not follow a pattern, now I can knit almost anything, the thing I like making best is baby clothes, as they are only small and you can finish them quickly, bootees and mittens are the easiest, and can save you a lot of money by making them yourself. I also make jumpers for the family, I recently made a white chunky swaeter for my daughter, and some soft toys. If you think you can't do knitting, just try and you will be suprised just how easy and relaxing it is.
