Advantages: Good viewing points,excellent racing
Disadvantages: No Car Parking,No Pit garages and a short pit lane
In May I had the oppurtunity to visit Knockhill in Scotland for the British Touring Car Championship. On reviewing my visit I have mixed feelings on it. It is a a circuit like no other,in the fact that it really shouldn`t be on the calender, the pitlane is to small there are no pit garages and no public car-park,you have to park 5 miles from the circuit and get a bus to it. But there is something about it that endears it to you.Whether its the friendly scottish atmosphere or the experience of life so different at a race circuit I don`t know. It always offers good racing, the circuit is very narrow and the spectators are close to the action, with a lack of catch fencing for flying cars!Overtaking is almost impossible here because of the lack of corners and because the track is so thin so there is always alot of incident with people trying moves that aren`t on. Viewing at the circuit is some of the best in the country, based on a hill it means that if you get to one area of the track you can see almost the whole of the circuit. I would certainly recommend a visit just for the experience of it and with ticket prices not to expensive its a fairly cheap day out. Camping is based 3 miles down the road in a farmers field and as i say unless a season-ticket holder on race-day you have to get a bus in.Long cues are inevitable but the bus is free.Just a word of warning its an absolute nightmare to find the track as its in the middle of nowhere so expect to be stopping at every petrol station to ask directions!
