The 24hour du Mans in June has become something of an obsession with me, and I make the pilgrimage every year with a group of mates. The track is the ultimate challenge in endurance racing, as there are few, if any track of this length left in the world, and poses the challenge of the straights (Mulsanne and the run to Indianapolis and Arnage) and the Porsche curves that go on for over a mile! The current french formula 1 track, Mangy Cours, is boring, and no challenge for the drivers of today. The La Sarthe track, however, is much more challenging, and creates better opportunities for overtaking, and better excitement for the fans. It is also a much more accessible track than Mangy Cours. The race should also be a round of the ALMS, as most of the major series contenders were there (ORECA, Audi, Panoz et al; unfortunatley, however, no BMWs...). Also, it was a pity abut McNish, Aiello and Ortelli not winning. Better luck next time though...) ... Read the complete review
