Advantages: Being able to get to where ever you need with out relying on other sorces
Disadvantages: very expensive
Im wondering where to start on this one....
As a driver my self I wonder why we all feel the same once we have passed our tests well every driver I know is the same... Learners always annoy us.
I only passed my test in 2007,I had held my provisional drivers licence since 2004 and never bothered to take lessons though my husband did give me the odd lesson here and there untill one day I didnt think to slow down enough on a bend and hit the curb and busted his tyre.
Needless to say although we were all fine he didnt seem too keen on letting me drive any of his cars after that.
I didnt pass my test 1st time I passed on my 3rd attemt and was going to give up if I hadnt but I needed to drive as my kids were at a school quite out the way and it was quite annoying travelling everyday of the week on 2 busses but I got there in the end. Needless to say there are some High expenses to be paid for learning to drive.
Firstly you need a provisional drivers licence you can apply for this when you are 17 (I believe) the cost for this :First provisional - car, motorcycle, moped is £50 though changing this from a provisional to a full licence is free.if you need to replace a lost or stollen licence this will cost £17.50.
I decided to take my theory test before taking my 1st lesson which I think now was a little silly of me as it may have taken a while for me to pass my test there fore my theory test may have run out and I would have had to retake it again.
Theory test cost Standard fee for car and motorcycle is £30.
Im lucky to have passed this first time.
Then came my driving lessons I learnt to drive with a local instructor who lives on the same road as me my lessons were £20 per hour or 11 lessons for £200 saving me £20 I went with this option on a few occaisions and ended up paying arond £1000 - £1500 in total to get through from start to finish.
All in all the process took me from taking my Theory test in dec 2006 to passing my driving test in August 2007 totalling 8 and a half months.
Im happy I done it and am still learning every day I would never class myself as an experienced driver as you always have to be aware of everyone.
Summary: Learning to drive can take a long time depending on how much patience you have.
