Advantages: Stylish
Disadvantages: W&M panel
There was yet another interesting twist in the macabre recent history of Leeds United just the other week ? the very same weekend that they chose to air their brand new Diadora sponsored footie kit saw the moment that their 14 year top flight career came to an unpleasant but long anticipated ending as they crashed 4-1 at Bolton after being a goal up at half time. It smacks of the future clashing dismally with the past as one chapter ended while another one began to open. The home page of the Leeds United website (www.leedsunited.com) features a fairly pleasant splash screen with bright young thing James Milner and a young female modelling the new kit, which seems somehow much more clean and modern than the old variant. There?s also a decent desktop wallpaper featured on the site that has a racy young chick modelling the kit at a recent Leeds game and it?s enough to warm the cockles of any old codger?s heart. The men behind the club these days may be seemingly as naïve as their predecessors but they clearly know how to get men reaching in their pockets? Anyway, the new shirts are a sleek and smooth creation, basically still the same all white but with some rather snazzy black and yellow bands at the neck and sleeves and on the front there?s the same Leeds badge and Whyte and Mackay logo, but there?s also now a Diadora symbol above the whole. It?s an interesting look and frighteningly similar to the recent snug fitting Tottenham creation ? SHUDDER! The adult shirts retail for £39.99, with shorts a frightening twenty quid and the socks a tenner a pair ? now that is expensive, and I think I?d wait until they?re in the bargain bin at the end of next season, but then I?m a tight old git. There?s also quite a lot to be desired with that Whyte and Mackay panel as well because it doesn?t
wash too well and you know it?s going to start peeling all too soon. I?ve got a blue away shirt at the moment which I bought a few weeks ago and that?s already going ? well disappointing. Leeds are obviously banking on shifting quite a lot of these units over the next few weeks as they prepare for a brave new era (!) in Division One, trying to resurrect the club from its inglorious recent past and launch themselves as a whole new breed. Like the kit ? fear the worst for the immediate future ? detest the tackiness of the W&M panel ? hope James Milner stays and they can persuade Gordon Strachan to take over ? they could be the next Sheffield Wednesday or resurrect themselves once more ? only time will tell?

- 05/06/04 Good opinion. I think the kits are really expensive. I guess this year I won't be getting a name on the back of my top (Smith) lol. |

- 17/05/04 The price of the footy kits are nothing more than a rip off. |

- 16/05/04 Bejaysus. If I were a Leeds fan, I doubt I'd be in the mood to spend seventy quid on a kit at the moment! |
