Advantages: The atmosphere at Welford Road is incredible, It has a very strong squad, The team are very very consistent

Disadvantages: The back lie won't have that little bit of extra flare without Pat Howard, The club merchandise is a ripoff, Leicester never quite seem to win cups like the Tetly's as often as they should

Leicester Tigers, the now called 'Manchester United of Rugby' This is the name given by outsiders to the game who don't bother to point out they play the better code of rugby: rugby union. But Leicester have at the very least three hugely obvious differences from Manchester United:

1) Leicester Tigers don't have mounds and mounds of wealth, it's impossible because Union has only been professional for six years and it doesn't have an individual millionaire sponsor. The reason Leicester dominate the Zurich premiership in the way the way they do is because they didn't go for the quick fix when professionalism kicked in. (Unlike clubs like Newcastle or Wasps) They made a strong youth setup, which now means that many players are coming through which give them in my view, the strongest and most thorough club setup in British rugby union and the fan base gives them an astronomical advantage at home and support the club well away as well

2)THe VERY LARGE majority of Leceister are anything but glory supporters, they either live in or around Leicester, were born in or around Leicester, were born into a Leicester based and/or supporting family (like myself) or have some other viable reason for supporting the club. A very small number are probably glories, but nothing compared to the amounts of Manchester United (where people who live in Singapore and who have never even visited Europe are 'firm supporters' of them.

3)There is a strong sense of club spirit at Leicester, players stay on to help in the coaching setup (i.e. Dean Richards), I see the young and old, the tall and short and the fat and thin join together on Saturdays at Welford road with only one intention: To get behind their team and give the opposition a damn hard time.

So if you're ever talking to someone and they compare Manchester United to Leicester Tigers, make damn sure you correct them.

Good points made but Utd also owe much of their success to a superb youth set-up - besides the success of Beckham, Scholes et al, there also the more recent youthers who have been sold on for £millions and walked into other Premiership FIRST teams (Derby & Middlesborough). That's the difference between them and e.g. Chelsea who have just as many internationals in the squad but don't win anything.

Also, the majority of Manchester support Utd (a Man Evening News survey confirmed this), it just so happens that there are even more supporters elsewhere in the world.

Hmmm, getting a bit pedantic there, but I'm sure you would have done the same if defending Leicester!
Cheers

Union the superior code - bit debatable that one! Leicester are a great club but so are Bradford Bulls, St Helens and Wigan (these are Rugby League clubs whose supporters would disagree about the best code).

Leicester nearly became a Super League club and the Union professionalism has been going on for years - jobs for the boys, fivers in boots. League had the honest to be professional from the start - Union has copied that and most other League ideas ever since.

And who is their defensive coach - Phil Larder !!!
