The early fights: The journeymen Lennox faced include the immortals such as Jorge Alfredo Dascola, Michael Simuwelu and Jean Chanet (yeah I've never heard of either of them since either so don't worry) and domestic rival Gary Mason (for the BBOFC title, i.e. The British title) and putting the only loss on Masons record ... more

Premium Review Lennox Lewis: His middle name is Claudius...poor guy (1790 words)
by - written on 15/11/07 (Very useful, 77 readings)
Rating:

Origins: A lot of things are said about Lennox, most often than not an arguement about whether he's British (as he was born in England, and claims he's British), Canadian (who he represented in the Olympics) or Jamaican (where his family originated from) will ensue from any boxing fan (oddly it's usually the american ones that call him Canadian as they can't believe a Brit beat two of their boxing hero's in Tyson and Holyfield). But I won't go on. Lennox was born on September 2, 1965 in West Ham, London, England as Lennox Claudius Lewis (can we blame him for hiding the Roman name? Poor guy must have had it ripped out of him for that) and moved to ...  Read the complete review

LEWIS DESTROY'S RAHMAN IN 4th (477 words)
by - written on 18/11/01
Rating:

I remember well that fateful day when I saw a very unfit and unprepared Lennox Lewis enter the ring against a mediocre oppenant in South Africa only to be knocked out and lose both his titles in one lucky blow amde by a man who should not even have been in the same ring as Lennox. But last night the true Lennox lewis shone through and this time there were no excess pounds or sluggish moves he truely looked like the Lennox Lewis I remember winning all those years ago for Canada in the Olympics and what a display in the first he toyed with Rahman and allowed him a few jabs and I thought OH MY GOD here we go again but he was soon in control and controlling the pace ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lennox Lewis: Urrrrr......Who won? (462 words)
by - written on 23/04/01 (Very useful, 36 readings)

Picture the scene...... You are lying on a canvas. Dased, confused you look up to your trainer who looks on at you with a sympathetic smile and a face of "almost champ" written all over his face. Now, you remember you are a boxer, thats for sure so you must remember the rules.... 1)Hit the other man a lot until he falls over half dead. 2) make sure you do rule 1 or you will lose. With these 2 simple rules to follow, it should not take rocket science even for the most punch drunk mind to work out that you have not won if you are sparko on the floor. Yet these were the first words uttered to Lennox Lewis's trainer on ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review ...and NEW Heavyweight Champion Of The World, Hasim Rahman! (882 words)
by - written on 22/04/01 (Very useful, 38 readings)
Rating:

You better believe it. Hasim Rahman, in front of a relatively small audience of 9,000 in Carnival City, South Africa, shocked the entire world, pulling off perhaps the biggest upset in not only Boxing, but Sporting history by knocking out Lennox Lewis, gaining the WBA, IBF and IBO World heavyweight titles in the process. But, considering how Lewis prepared himself for this fight, should we really be shocked? In Johannesburg, where the fight had took place, there is an altitude problem. 6,000ft above sea level, it is much harder to breathe. Scientists and Doctors alike think that you need a period of about 6 weeks to fully get used to the conditions. Now Rahman, ...  Read the complete review

Lennox Lewis: Miss matches and little miss matches (719 words)
by - written on 20/04/01

So the BBC are telling us they are back in boxing with the big, well biggish, World Title fight in South Africa. The promotion is going well ard with a lot of PR telling us the fight is early Saturday morning, how early they are not telling us. Apparently the kick off is err 5am!,yes 5am,and the small time delay does little better to pull in the terrestrial TV viewers. The poor, and I mean poor fight fans in the republic have to fill the arena for American East coast TV at this ridiculous hour. His opponent Hasam Rahma, who has more excess puppy fat than Huntington Life Sciences, is not exactly at the top of his game and I reckon Rigsby could go five ...  Read the complete review
