Advantages: Spiritual Awareness.

Disadvantages: Too much emphasis on Death rather than life.

You want the truth? Can you handle it? I wonder.

For many years now I have pondered on the question of life - immortality - spiritual progression etc. WHY ARE WE HERE!

I have studied this catagory's questions and - in my view (remember, everyone to their own) here are some answers...

1. What makes us seek something beyond the present physical reality?

ANSWER. I believe our life is eternal. We return to the 'physical plane' in order to learn and experience given situations, which in turn will enable us to progress on a spiritual level. We are not going to learn from these experiences if we bring all the knowledge we possess back with us - that is why we continue to seek something (proof of life after death)we know to exists.

We have had many physical lives and throughout each one we may feel we know someone we have only just met or have been to a place for the first time but recognise it. This is because we tend to have the same 'circle of friends - and family' in many incarnations.

2. What do near death experiences mean?

ANSWER. A near death experience is a pretty amazing thing. There have been many cases written about in books and here on Dooyoo. Most people know someone who has experienced it. Generally it involves someone who is seriously ill - thought to be dying. They will - after recovering, recall seeing passed on relatives, a bright white light at the end of a tunnel, a feeling of total peace, and no pain. They might also recall floating above their own body and witnessing the doctors and nurses trying to revive them.

I am sure that these experiences are real. They are not just down to chemical imbalances of the brain or Morphine. I believe that sometimes we need to be guided back onto our chosen path. Sometimes we lose our way and forget what we have taken mortal human form for. The near death experience is to remind us. We will then come back
- often accompanied by great pain - to experience what we have to learn. It may not seem to make sense - it may involve a lot of heartbreak or agony for ourself and others - but we are all learning from what occurs in life - good or bad. Near death is also a way of encouraging us to fulfill our destiny - if we chose to stay in spirit (and end this life) then we may have to return in another life to complete the task/lesson.

3. Is religion an attempt by those who believe in the afterlife to prove it?

ANSWER. I don't think there is any connection between religion and our spiritual journey. I know this will anger many of you who are deeply religious and I apologise. I was bought up as a good Christian - I went to Sunday school every week with my sister. It played a big part in my upbringing but...I could never get to grips with the hypocrisy. More concerned was I about the wars that have been waged in the name of religion. It has and never will make sense - to kill someone because they don't think what you think - no God would condone that. OK I've said the word - God.
At the end of the day - whatever your belief their will only be one God - and He won't be religious - he won't say,
"Sorry - you can't come in - your not a Jew/Muslim/Hindu/Christian/Catholic"

Religion does far more harm than good - if everyone simply lived by the rules of the 10 commandments there would be no problems.

4. Is our fear of death a physical reaction - a basic instinct to keep the body alive?

ANSWER. Fear of death is natural to most people. As I have said before, we are not meant to bring all our previously learned knowledge with us to this life. If we did we would not learn. Therefore we also have to experience the fears and concerns and sorrow of losing loved ones and ultimately ourself. We all know 'fear of the unknown', once we know and understand what we fear, we no longer fear
it. Well that's all that death is - an unknown.

There are those who have studied spirituality and who no longer fear death, in fact they positively look forward to it. To an extent this is good but I wonder if they are spending too much of their life awaiting death instead of progressing along their life's path - and so they will have to return again to complete their journey.

5. Is there more to us than mind and body?

ANSWER. See any of the above! Of course there is - mind and body are the vessels in which we continue our journey of wonder. Our spirit is the eternal part. Look upon your body as a car - You look after it, feed it, love it, lavish attention upon it and it will serve you well, getting you from A to B for as long as it can manage. Eventually the parts begin to wear out and it's time to send it to the great scrap heap in the sky. But there is a new car waiting for you - all shiny, gleaming and ready to go - engines revving and better than ever. Such is life.

MY EXPERIENCES OF LIFE AFTER DEATH.

My father died of cancer 11 years ago at the age of 57. Since then I sought to understand and confirm to myself that he had only gone through some invisible door to a level of conciousness mortals cannot understand. Dad had completed his lessons and moved on to another level.

I went to a regular meeting of spiritually minded people, some of them were clairvoyant (could see spirits), some clairaudient (could hear spirits) and others were clairsensient (could feel spirits presense). I'm not sure that I fall into any of the above catagory but I have definately smelled the presense of a spirit in my house - and still do - regularly (no - not the bottle of Scotch on the sideboard!)

I think there may be 2 souls who regulary visit me. One may be my grandma - I get a strong aroma of sweet smelling perfme in my kitchen. Not my own - nor anyone elses in the house - it comes and
goes. Also - usually around the end of the year I have been aware (and so has my family) of a strong smell of smoke at the bottom of the stairs - cigarette smoke. There are no smokers in my house - nor do my neighbours smoke. Could it be a previous owner who commited suicide? I don't know but I have told him I am happy for him to be here but I don't like the smell of smoke in the house!

I have had many messages from relatives who have passed on - probably the most significant being via a clairvoyant, from my grandfather who commented on my curtains falling down - they had doen so only a few days before! Trivial but very startling!

So there you have it - like it or loath it - it is my opinion. I make no claims to KNOW what I think to be true for everyone. We all have to come to our own conclusions. I just feel rather honoured to have been allowed the privilidge of the knowledge I feel I have. I still fear dying - the nature of my death - but I have faith in the belief that my life will not be over.

May you all find the peace in this life you deserve and as Dave Allen would say,

"May your God be with you".

Wonderfully written op - but I disagree with many of your points. Each to his own of course.

The most important observation you make is that any God wringing his hands over all the religious conflict we see nowadays is not the kind of God who will turn away individuals on the basis of faith, or are we not in his image after all?

Live a good life and have a good afterlife. I like that idea.
