Livingston F.C.Newest Review: ... the Scottish First Division up to the holy grail of the Scottish Premiership. Livingston's mercurial rise up the Scottish leagues is extremely impressive, and some have quite rightly made comparisons to the way in which Wimbledon went from non-league obscurity in England right up to the top division. However, that is where the comparisons should stop. A rise up the English leagues from ... more |

From the ashes of the now defunct Meadowbank Thistle rose Livingston FC, who are now enjoying the big time in the Scottish Premier Division in just the seventh season since their inception. Meadowbank Thistle had played at the former Commonwealth Stadium in Edinburgh, but the city struggled to support three teams (it already had Hibernian and Hearts) and the former athletics stadium was not well suited for games of football in front of low crowds. The decision was therefore taken to make a move twenty miles down the road to Livingston, which is where this story really begins to take shape. Livingston started life in the Scottish Third Division in the 1995/6 ... Read the complete review

Livingston Fc never used to exist football supporters either travelled to Edinburgh or Glasgow. At this time in Edinburgh a small team was struggling for survival, their name Meadowbank Thistle. Then in the 1994-1995 season Meadowbank Thistle club Secretary Bill Hunter had a meeting with Livingston Development Corporation, an of the cuff comment that they should move to Livingston proved to be the beginning for Livingston FC. The die hard Meadowbank Thistle supporters did not support the move but it went ahead anyway. As such Livingston FC was born and a new 4000 all seater stadium was in the process of being built. The ground is in a key location next to ... Read the complete review

The hopes of those 4000 who had attended the first game at the capital's Commonwealth Stadium had been long unrealised and by the end only a handful of hard-core fans turned-up and watch the games played at what was generally agreed to be the least atmospheric of all of Scotland's 40 senior venues. The were memories of course; the majority were irregular cup clashes against some of the major Scottish Clubs; a SKOL Cup semi-final appearance in 1984 and the Second Division championship ... There has been much talk recently over what would happen to Scottish football should the Old Firm leave the game and head for England - a move supremos of both clubs say is inevitable. On recent evidence, Livingston FC would emerge as the new contenders to dominate Scottish football, throwing cash around like there's no tomorrow and plunging into financially-stricken clubs for their best players. Livingston have received a lot of praise for their meteoric rise from the days of Meadowbank to, six short years later, the SPL. Their potential is enormous, thanks largely to the god-like ability of ex-Airdrie and Deportivo star David Fernandez up front. ... Read the complete review

I first went to watch this team when visiting Scotland about three or four years ago, and although I didn't have much knowledge of the Scottish second division, I knew that this team had the foundations of a quality football club. The team had only been in existence for a couple of years since being changed from Meadowbank Thistle and had been invested in well. The ground is well above average for the division and has plenty of room for expansion. The club has spent wisely and have risen from originally the third division to become a promotion challenger for the premier league, and have the potential to stay amongst the country's best. ...
