Newest Review: ... together despite the news being full of doom, gloom and selfishness. Yes - the London Marathon 2009 was indeed one of the best days I have had. Hard work - incredibly hard work, and very very hot, but a lot of fun, and a great atmosphere throughout. But - despite the fantastic organisation (anyone who has even considered trying to put on a big event should be impressed by the logistics ... more

Last Sunday, I had the privilage to run the London Marathon. This event has become one of the biggest on the UK's sporting calendar, taking place in April each year, it has been run every year since 1981. Most people will have seen the marathon on the television - 26.2 miles (the final 0.2 bizarrely seems to be just as long as the previous 26!) through the streets of London - round famous sights such as Cutty Sark, across Tower Bridge, winding round docklands and Canary Wharf, round by the Tower of London, along the embankment, towards the Houses of Parliament before running past Buckingham Palace towards the finish......... Thousands of people, of ...  Read the complete review

I have been 'fortunate' to run the London Marathon on two occasions. The first was in 2007 and the second in 2008. In 2006 two of my friends decided to run it and I volunteered to support them with their training, what followed was months of blood sweat and tears. Every Sunday I would get ready to run miles with them, supporting and encouraging them to keep on going, particularly through the wind and the rain of those early January mornings. My favourite memory of running with them was the day we ran 23 miles towards the very end of their training, it was a real triumph as we ran through Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. My main role was to ...  Read the complete review

26 miles, how the hell do people do it, getting up early on a Sunday I regularly see the ten's of thousands of runners heading to Canary Wharf to begin this annual charity event. While I admire the professionals, the Paula Radcliffe's of this world I really tip my hat to people who are not runners, people who through sheer force of will and bloody-mindedness train in wind, rain, hale and snow in typical British Weather, pushing their bodies to (and way beyond) their limits, age appears irrelevant every year I speak with a friend some old some young who have taken on the challenge, every one of them finishes it and comes away with a memory they'll cherish ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review My London Marathon Experience (3661 words)

My London Marathon experience I grew up watching the London Marathon and up until a few years back I had watched the race every year. I started entering the race when I was 18, as soon as I was old enough to qualify for entry and had my heart set on running the biggest race in the country. Every year the field of runners got bigger and bigger. I trained and ran local fun runs and 10k races, and handled my rejections as well as I could. In 1990 I joined the RAF but I still entered the Marathon and this was the 1st ever year I was unable to watch the race as I was doing basic training at RAF Swinderby. Having completed basic training I moved on in ...  Read the complete review
