Advantages: Lots of highs
Disadvantages: Lots of lows too
2008 was a pretty rubbish year for me, although I leannt a lot about myself along the way.
1) What did you do in 2008 that you have not done before?
I drove to Devon all by myself which is actualy the longest car journey I have ever done (Dover to Devon). I have been driving for 7 years but the longest drive I have done alone before that one was about an hour so driving to Devon (which took about 5 hours) was a big step for me.
I also gave up smoking on 13th October and so far I am still a non smoker so I would like to say that I have actually cracked it this time and have finally managed to kick the habit as this is the longest I have ever managed to give up for.
2) Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not actually give birth no but my brother girlfriend found out she is pregnant and she is due in the middle of February so that's something to look forward to.
3) Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully no people, that's something I am always grateful for. However, I did loose my leopard gecko Casper and my Bearded Dragon Bud which was really quite sad.
4) What countries did you visit?
I visited Tunisia in May and Goa in November.
5) What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008
I would like to meet a decent man. I would also like to find a job doing something that I love (ie, working with animals) but one that also pays me as much as what I am currently on so I can still afford to pay my mortgage.
6) What days will you remember from 2008
I guess the main day that stands out in my mind is the day that my fiance who I had been with for three years told me that he was leaving because he needed 'to find himself'. That was back in August and I felt like my whole world had been turned upside down but as the year progressed, I slowly began to get back to normal and realised that I'm actually a lot stronger that I thought I was.
7) Did you suffer any Illness or injury
Only in November when I got a stomach bug that appeared to eventually affect everyone I know. I am lucky because I don't get ill very often but when I do I tend to have some really awful virus.
8) What was the best thing that you bought
Probably my two week holiday to Goa in November. I went with my best friend and we had bth just been through horrible break ups and think we needed just two weeks of relaxation and sunshine. The holiday did me the world of good.
9) Who's Behaviour has Merited Celebration
My Dad's. When I went through the break up, he was my rock. I remember thinking that nothing was ever going to feel normal again and my dad sat me down and we had the most memorable heart to heart and I found out stuff about my Dad that I had never known before. My Dad has a certain way about him that just calms me down no matter ho bad things are, he always seems to put them right.
10) Who's behaviour made you appalled and depressed
My ex, Jamie. I know its cliché but I really thought I had found the one man (aside from my Dad of course) that would never let me down...I was very very wrong.
11) Where did most of your money go?
Luckily I am pretty good with my money so a lot of my money went into my savings acoount. I didn't really have any major expenses except for vet bills.
12) What did you get really excited about
Going on holiday with my best friend Kayleigh, it was the one thing that I really looked forward to.
13) What song will you remember from 2008
Probably Hometown Glory by Adele because I listened to it about 100 times after my break up!
14) Compared to this time last year ....
I think considering what a rubbish year 2008 was, I actually feel much more positive that I did last year. I think that my relationship ending actually turned out to be a good thing in the end. I can now look forward to a future that I have always dreamed of rather than settling for second best.
15) What do you wish you had done more of
Being honest with myself.
16) What do you wish you had done less of
Allowing myself to get stressed and down about things that I really should have just let slide.
17) What was your favourite television programme
I quite like Ashes to Ashes...looking forward to the next series which starts soon.
18) Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate last year
Hate is a strong word and emotion that usually damages the person doing the hating more so that the person they are hating. Having said that, I don't particurlarly like my ex anymore.
19) What's been the best book of 2008?
Two books really stand out in my mind. These are The Cheameleon's Shadow by Minette Walters and also No Time For Goodbye by Linwood Barclay.
20) What was your greatest musical discovery
I absolutely adore Ne-Yo's album and also The Script's album.
21) What did you really want to get in 2008
Nothing that really springs to mind. I always wanted to give up smoking and I guess Ia cheived that if nothing else.
22) What did you want but didn't get
Some answers regarding my job. We have had the threat of oursourcing for about 18 months now and we were hoping that this year we would get some answers but sadly, we will now get the answers next year!
23) What was your favourite film of the year
I really enjoyed The Dark Knight, I thought Heath Ledger was absolutely fantastic playing the role of the Joker.
24) What did you do on your birthday and how old were you.
I was 24 on my birthday and if I remember rightly I went out for a meal with my fiance, my Mum and Dad and my brother and his partner. I also went out at the weekend and had a few drinks with my friends.
25) Who was the best person you met
Kayleigh, by a mile. She started working where I do in March and we were partnered with each other and really hit it off.
26) Tell us a valuable lesson that you learned in 2008?
That you aren't always going to get closure from every situation and sometimes you just have to draw a line and move on.
Summary: Another year gone....
