Advantages: some for me

Disadvantages: n/a

I have been reading some members reviews on 2008 so I thought I'd add my own.
Although 2008 wasn't exactly the most exciting year of my life is was still a pleasure to live through it...
Anyway... I found the question/answer form is probably the easiest way to give my personal opinion about 2008 for both reading and writing... so here goes....

* 1) What did you do in 2008 that you have not done before..?

My life's slowed down recently so I don't do as much 'exciting' things that I used to do... in the past I've done a few 'dangerous' sports, such as paragliding, hand gliding and even a couple of parachute jumps (mainly all paid for by her majesty).
So I suppose the answer would have to be nothing new in 2008...

* 2) Did anyone close to you give birth..?

My wife's niece gave birth to a baby girl, calling it Mia (???) although I have not been to see her as yet although my wife has.

* 3) Did anyone close to you die..?

Fortunately not in 2008, thank god

* 4) What countries did you visit..?

Only France and Amsterdam, both to do with work which was quite depressing indeed.

* 5) What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008..?

A little more security with financial situations, especially with this dooming recession.

* 6) What days will you remember from 2008..?

Many days spring to mind but the day I will personally remember is the day I stood up to my boss and told him what to do with his stinking job and his bullying attitude... I tell you what, those few minutes of ranting gained me more respect than years of reaching deadlines... and now he treats me as an equal instead of just an employee.

* 7) Did you suffer any Illness or injury..?

Fortunately nothing serious, other than a cold and maybe a stubbed toe.

* 8) What was the best thing that you bought..?

It has to be the family bus... a simple 1.8 litre Focus C-Max which cost next to nothing to run and gets my family round in comfort... and I got it at a bargain price.

* 9) Who's Behaviour has Merited Celebration..?

I had to think hard about this one and then realised that my choice is more "whose behaviour has merited acknowledgment" rather than 'celebration'... and with this, my mind instantly went to Stephen and Melanie Jones for the brave and dignified way they held themselves during the murder trial of their beloved young son Rhys, who, as we all know, was shot by a coward in Liverpool.
Stephen and Melanie had the strength to hide their anger and pain even after the verdict was announced, showing the difference between civilised people like themselves and cowardly scum like the murderer... (whose name I don't even want to write on the same page as Rhys)

* 10) Who's behaviour made you appalled and depressed..?

It would not be one individual but the entire English government and the stupid system we in this country call justice.. I mean, what a pathetic spineless governing body we have at the moment, (but then again, the other choices are not much to be happy about either)... and as for the justice system, well, you're alright as long as you're a criminal...

* 11) Where did most of your money go..?

Mortgage and ruddy shopping trips... it seems that every time I go to the shops for basic essentials, like bread and milk, the ruddy shops have raised there prices yet again...sending my shopping bill through he roof

* 12) What did you get really excited about..?

Getting time away from work so I could enjoy some quality family time, (not too exciting for some but hey... I'm all grown up now)

* 13) What song will you remember from 2008..?

I like a few... (and hate many others, especially Amy Winehouse)....but I do quite like the Duffy hit 'Mercy' for reasons even I can't really understand.

* 14) Compared to this time last year ....?

This one I do not understand... what am I comparing to this time next year???

* 15) What do you wish you had done more of..?

Exercise and more activities with my kids... this is mainly due to total work commitment to keep my families head above water during these dodgy times.

* 16) What do you wish you had done less of..?

Less work so I could spend more time with my family

* 17) What was your favourite television programme..?

It is a choice from The Simpson, Futurama and Red Dwarf... I could gladly sit and watch all three all day long.... Although my wife would kick up a fuss.

* 18) Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate last year..?

Alex ruddy Fergusson ( I refuse to call him sir) and the entire arrogant team he manages...yes, Manchester United... I know you may think that because I support the blue part of Manchester but it is not for that reason, I mean, I have happily gone to many games at Old Trafford with friends and there has been no hatred at all... it is just that recently, that red faced, gum chewing loud mouthed referee bullying Scotsman is so big headed he has become infuriating... and this seems to have rubbed off onto most of the team as well, especially that ruddy Ronaldo and his cheating diving, to me he's got a face I could happily smack all day long (although I'm not the violent type)
Don't get me wrong... I don't hate all the United squad (yet), I mean, Giggs is quality without arrogance...

* 19) Who was the best person you met..?

I've met lots of people during my time and the best person I have met is my wife... and my kids of course... but if you mean the best famous person I have met was the happy Mondays who stayed at a hotel I was working at, what a party we had after work, talk about a down to earth bunch of lads... and what was best was because they were guests we partied all night with out hassle from the management... (great days...)

* 20) What was your greatest musical discovery..?

Has to be the electric guitar because no matter how badly I play it I can still get a half decent tune out of it... apart form that it must be the good old MP3 player so you can work out whilst listening to your favourite tracks... either that or ignore people by pretending to listen to it anyway

* 21) What did you really want to get in 2008..?

I know this may sound a little corny but I have everything I need right now... I have a lovely family, a nice home in a decent area and a rather pleasant job which pays well enough...

* 22) What did you want but didn't get..?

That hefty Christmas bonus from work... and I'm wondering now about my pay rise in April..???

* 23) What was your favourite film of the year..?

I would have to say this has to be Dowdle's Quarantine as I like a good zombie comedy.

* 24) What did you do on your birthday and how old were you..?

I was 38 in 2008 and I spent a quite night in with my family... a little dull sounding but hey, I'm a family man know.

* 25) Tell us a valuable lesson that you learned in 2008..?
If I'm to save more then put it under my mattress instead of a bank...much safer that way and there's less chance of losing it.

Summary: Another year over, another year older

I'm sooo with you on be able to smack Ronaldo's cocky little face all day! I'm not violent either usually, he must have that effect. Great read!
