Love in Oldham exposed many interesting quirks about mixed marriages in the U.K.We have the highest amount of inter race weddings here with %43 percent of black males dating white girls. We have four times as many interracial marriages than any other European union countries.

Dilution in certain ethnic minorities seems away to escape the constant persecution of being black or brown. Maybe they see dating a white woman as a way of being more excepted in a seemingly racist society.
Caramel kids may just give the child a better chance in a tough uncaring Britain at times.

Adopted black children of mixed race often have dreads to try and fit in more with their new middle class enviromnets.
This can lead them to be distantced from their piers and culture.

Michael Jackson is a great example of how not to become white.Theres definately something going on there that i will never comprehend.

If you try and think of a black celebrity couple you will struggle. Lenny Henry and Dawn French, Most boxers and their girlfriends and footballers to seek solace and expectance in the arms of Essex women. And amazingly most white partners of black prominent Celebes are from Essex.
Britain’s only black nineteen eighties black MP had a white wife in Sharon Grant who went on to win the predominately black Tottenham South.

Love in Oldham was about a typical young lower class white girl who is dating a chubby Asian guy. The white kid’s parents are predictably reticent and racist about her marrying a black guy. But interestingly the Asian kids’ parents are similarly bigoted.
This caused unwanted tensions and I expect the eventual erosion of any solid romance. It certainly highlights that the angst and vivid ignorance and anger that festers in poor delinquent cultures does every thing it can to stop people being happy together.

Sink estates and poor areas like that in Oldham where all the recent racial tensi
ons have exploded will always be the breeding ground for irrational hatred.
We saw in Northern Ireland and the school sectarianism that the troubles are really in the poor areas rather than the rich ones.
Just as middle class Catholics and Protestants live work and marry, the same would be true of the Oldham affluent suburbs. Ignorance breeds poverty and then racism and vice versa.

I think with the young couple in this film that the attraction was more to do with the music and clubs they visit rather than anything else. Dance music would definitely something that would bring inner city kids together.
The problem with Channel Four documentaries is that most of them are contrived to say the least.
The excellent Cutting Edge show that tackled similar topics lost all credibility when it was found that some directors were prepping scenes and subjects to “create”drama.

One such show involved a Tesco manager that seemed to deal rather too well with a serial complaining fastidious customer.
This Tesco manager then turned up two months later in a BBC documentary as the head of Tesco media and corporate affairs. A blatant PR stunt was contrived between Channel Four and Chrysalis TV to invent an episode of Cutting Edge.
Two other guys from the episode “The complainers”would later appear in another rather dodgy segment of the excellent documentary series.


My point is that these shows on the current series are not always as they seem. The biggest problems the ethnic communities have though is drugs and the decimation that brings. It’s easy money for people who are blocked off from fairness and opportunities in life.

Northern cities have much higher ethnic minority populations and all the poverty to go with it. This is ideal territory for the NP to feed on that white working/under class ignorance you get in any sink estate. The Asian leaders are aware of the situation and have problem
s with their delinquent minority as much as any other poor area.

What needs to happen is all colors and creeds to look t themselves and try and clean up their own house. West Indian groups need to tackle disproportionate levels of crime in their communities where as whites need to trust ethnic minorities more and stop the blatant stereotyping.
