Advantages: Great players, A lot of potential, Very successful. Very Rich
Disadvantages: Have we seen their very best?
Manchester United are undoubtedly the best football club in Great Britain, but definitely not in Europe, I believe. David Beckham is probably their most influential player; with superb crosses every game and magnificent set pieces. Roy Keane is also an outstanding player, and is very aggressive, and a great passer of the ball. His antics can get him into a lot of trouble though, like what happened with Alfe Inge Haaland. He got sent off for a reckless challenge. I also believe Fabien Barthez is the World's best goalkeeper and has a terrific influence on his defence. He is very confident and he makes sure that his defence, United and France's, have the utmost of confidence in his ability. Their Stadium is terrific and boosts a huge attendance of around 65,000 people. They are an extremely rich football club and are on of the richest in the World. I am surprised to see that they don't seem to sign that many World class players, even though they have quite a few already. I think that what Alex Ferguson is trying to get is a team of very hard working winners, whose only desire is to play for Man United and no-one else, probably he doesn't see this in a lot of foreigners, like Rivaldo, Figo etc. I doubt that they will wont to stay at a club for long till they start moaning about their wages, even though they are payed well above theor actual worth anyway. I don’t know why most people seem to hate this club. Maybe because they are Chelsea fans and are jealous of what they have achieved, maybe their manager, who possibly appears to be a little bit arrogant about his great team. I think he is right to be like that if he is, because United have acheived so much much in his reign there.. I am a Norwich City and when they were in the Premiership I never hated them when they comprehensively beast us every season. They have all the potential to be a more successful team in Europe, but haven’t achieved much of late, except that fluk
e victory over Bayern Munich in the Champion’s League final in 1999. Man Utd have a lot of home grown talent, such as the Neville Brothers (Phil and Gary) and David Beckham. As we all know Manchester United failed dramatically in the World Club Championship in Rio de Janeiro, which, which might have been the reason why FIFA didn’t award England the 2006 World Cup, now awarded to Germany. I believe the conditions were awful for them, as the temperature was very hot and was normal for most of the other teams, who were used to a hot climate. Well, the FA cup has been a hugely successful tournament for United, being winners of the best Cup in the world many times in the nineties. The Premiership has been even better for them, winning it 7 times out of nine years. I believe there is hardly any fair competition for them at the moment, but I believe Arsenal and Liverpool will strengthen their squad dramatically over the next few seasons. I very much doubt Leeds will be in the Championship hunt but I think the Champions League will forever be in their grasp. I think it will take a long time for United to be as successful as Liverpool were, who were winning major trophies year in, year out for 20 constant years. United have only been doing that for 10 or so. I still think we haven’t seen the best of United and I hope that in a couple of years time we will see a truly world class team, despite the fact that they will have a different manager to Alex Ferguson. *UPDATE* Of course, we all know now that United have signed Ruud Van Nistelrooj (however you spell it) for a British record £19 million. I think they needed that little bit more power up front as they haven't all the time, especially in Europe. I believe that other teams in the Premiership have spent big as well and I think United will have to spend more if they are going to win the Champions League AND win the Premiership. Please feel free to leave a c
omment and rate honestly.

- 11/01/02 Beckham is class, Scholes and Keane are top rate players and Van Nistelroy should (providing his knee holds up)be remembered as one of the all time breat strikers.
For me however Giggs is the true football genius, and his performances now pretty much dictate our success in a game.
Trouble is that he chose Wales as his national team (He Captained England under 18's)and has therefore denied himself the chance to ever play on the world stage.
Clearly as an England fan I wish that he had stayed with England as it would have given us so many more options. However the real shame is that he will never gain the personal recognition which he deserves.
Who on earth advised him on that one? |
