Having reflected on all of the results from saturdays football, and Manchester Uniteds Crushing defeat at the hands of Newcastle United in particular, i have been led to question how much of a serious contender Manchester United have become. They recently sold Jaap Stam to Lazio, and then bought in Laurent Blanc as a replacement at the ripe old age of 35!! They lost to Newcastel 4-3 on Sau=turday and that adds up to just 1 win in 8 away games!! This isn't the sort of form i, and many others, have started to take for granted. I am NOT a Manchester United supporter, and i would never even dream of becoming one. I am quite happy as a Norwich fan thanks. But many of those fans that DO get to Old Trafford every week, or those that go to away games, must be pretty shocked and dis-illusioned with the teams recebt form. They only jsut got away with a point against Aston Villa just recently, and they aren't performing how they were in that amazing treble winning season.

Players : Manchester United most certainly have the right bunch of players to go even further then ever before this season. The likes of david Beckham and Juan Sebastion Veron in midfield, and Rud Van Nistelrooy up front they are to be taken seriously before they even take to the pitch. Paul Scholes hasn't been looking up to much in his new role but he has vowed to make it work. Fabien Barthez may have come out with some quacky remarks, and some even whackier performances on pitch (did you see those two let offs against Blackburn?? He is lucky he is still in the starting eleven in my opinion), but he is renowned as one of, if not THE best keeper in the world, and therefore it makes sense that he plays for Manchester U. The sale of Jaap Stam has puzzled both myself and millions of others, not to mention Jaap himself!! Only Sir Alex knows what the real reason is, and he won't let it out for a good while yet!!

The fans have also given the team a lot to live up to. They expect a
lot of the team this season for a number of reasons. One of them is the fact that they haven't gotten far in many competitions lately, therefore they expect the team to go for it, and never give in. They EXCPECT the team to win everything. I know this may sound very harsh, but that is how i feel the fans are feeling. Another is the fact that it is Sir Alex's last season in charge of the team. He, and the team themselves want, and expect to do their best and do well. The third is the fact that they are yet to produce the same quality of the treble winning season and the fact that they need to do better then Liverpool have been doing lately. They feel the need to be the best in England, and to BE the best they need to start digging in and fighting for results. Something the yhaven't been doing. They feel that they can just breeze through the opposition, and it doesn't work like that.

Of course having written this i am bound to have upset a lot of you Man U supporters out there, so i am going to finish on a high note.

If hte team DOES dig in and get the results, then they can, and will do well this season. Fighting their way through the teams, will do them no harm, and if they beat the likes of Arsenal and.....Bolton!! then they could seriously make this last year, a good one for good old Alex. Of course with teh players they have and some of the younger players coming through, they could have a good squad to choose from!!

Thank You....

Michael

I am not the best person at writing opinions but what does this tell us about th etam and how they play. All it tells us is that they lost a few matches. As for the fans my friend who is a girl who is into football and doesn't just fancy a player is very content with man u and has been for the whole of her life.
By the way this is the first bad comment I have written about someone and the comment you wrote about ware182 was tight it was his first opinion and he needs help and guidance not diss from you.
Sorry if this sounds horrid but your a good stress releiver

I agree with you about the class game of football, it was the best game the Premiership has ever seen.

But on the own goal, you have your own views, which I respect, but it will never be but down as an o.g, every match report on T.V and Radio gave the goal to Shearer, and there was no mention about the possibility of it going to the T.V panel jury thing. And another thing which I think is on his side is the sheer magnitude of the game and the way it was played by to very attack minded teams, I still can't see it been credited as an o.g.

In this situation, they tend to give the benefit of the dobut to the attacking player, one goal which reminds me of Shearer's goal was Andy Cole's goal against Everton at your place a few years back, the ball was going to be saved by the keeper but it was deflected of Steve Watson and looped over the keeper. That could be an o.g but they gave the benefit of the doubt becasue it was on target.

But at the end of the day, IF it is credited as an o.g, it will not take an gloss of the game, becasue it was brilliant atmosphere and a brilliant game which will be seen over and over again.
