Manchester United, the most famous Football team in the world, with more international fans than anyone else. And dearly beloved by their nation. Yeah, you reckon?

There is no more eagerly villified sports team on these shores, and I am as eager as the next villifier. And so let the hatred commence. Of course I don't intensely and dehabilitatingly detest them, but I do have a few irks. Most of them are the usual complaints, but that doesn't make them any less valid dear reader.

Commercialism

Now I don't remember the days when it was all about the game, and that pains me because I really can't imagine a time when sponsorship deals, and record transfer fees weren't the propelling force behind managerial decisions. Man U players are everywhere, on our tvs, on our billboards, on our cereal packets, in our faces...

Smugness

I expect there's a far better word that could describe this. In fact I know there is, I just can't say it here for decency's sake. Everywhere I go someone is eager to regail me with irritating tales of how their (usually his) team is so much better than anyone else. Which leads me neatly on to....

Glory Hunters

You know who you are. If you live in Macclesfield you every right to support them as far as I'm concerned....but Mayfair? NO! Too many Londoners are Man U fans, it doesn't make any sense. If you want a hated team Arsenal are right on your doorstep. What is wrong with these people? There are so many quality teams out there, pick one of those, and one near enough that you'll actually be able to go to matches. It's a football team not a fashion accessory.

Well I think that'll do. I expect only 'fans' will read this, and I expect they'll be angry and upset, but you would be if you were a Man U supporter
