Marathon in GeneralNewest Review: ... certificate to make sure I was fit and healthy to run, so this is not a bad idea before embarking on the training. In regards to training from personal experience I have always started training for a marathon about 4-5 months before it but opinions differe whoever you talk to. I have always started easily enough with a few 20 minute runs over the first week or two. As you build up you ... more |

A marathon is 26.2 miles long and is one of the hardest endurance races you can ever try your hand at. Marathons take place all over the world and if you wanted to you could run a marathon every day as some people have tried. I first started running to keep fit at first about 10 years ago now and gradually the distances I was running increased and I found myself running half marathons regularly. I have now since run 7 marathons in the last 5 years, all for charity, including 3 in three weeks back in 2006 in Paris, Belfast and London. Running a marathon can be the most rewarding thing you ever do and the satisfaction you get ... Read the complete review

For those of you that don't know, a marathon is a race covering 26.2 miles. It's widely seen as the pinnacle of amateur running competitions and a general test of endurance and achievement. I decided to try to run a marathon in April this year, setting my sights on the Robin Hood marathon in September. I completed the half marathon and the BUPA Great North Run the year before, and thought that if I completed a marathon, I could give up on all this training and go back to running for the enjoyment. Let's get things into perspective. A marathon is a huge undertaking. I'm not saying my training and approach was anything special, but running for over 26 ... Read the complete review

Everyone knows that athletes are tough. However, there are some athletes that go beyond tough. Marathon running is about as close to the pain barrier as any athlete can get. However, in the past 25 years, it has seen its popularity grow in stature, and running a marathon is now seen as the goal of every road-runner. Its popularity stems from the fact that it is about the only sporting event where Joe Public can compete with the very best in the world. In the starting line for the major city marathons, such as London and New York, the elite athletes start with the fun-runners, running exactly the same course, marshalled by exactly the same people. How many ... Read the complete review

I love to run! So when I had the opportunity to participate in a marathon, I literally jumped for joy! First I bought some cool training shoes. I bought cross-country special trainers, which possessed some nifty orange springs which really helped. Oh, and the trainers were made by Nike! I bought some luminous clothes so I could be seen in the dark, and a flashlight to tie on to my head. The light was too bright though and when I turned it on, people were blinded and ran into trees and lamp-posts. It was funny, but surreal. So I got set up to run, but when I got there I was the only there! So I decided to just run and be ahead of the people who ... Read the complete review

Every year I watch the London marathon and believe I should be there. I feel very humble when I watch everyone participating in this great event and raising probably over £20 million for charity. There are people older than me, people younger than me, people in wheelchairs, people with all sorts of difficulties and all I can do is sit and watch. Perhaps next year I think again. I know in reality that there is very little chance of me participating as I am not very fit and overweight. But that should not stop me. I could get fitter and loose some weight. The mind is willing, now I just need to convince the rest of my body. If I ever did run a ... Read the complete review
