Nigel Martyn has been one of the top goalkeepers in Britain for many years now and has been a regular in the England squad on many occasions. Now that David Seaman is getting older and losing some of his form it doesnt look too long before Nigel will get a good run in the team. He deserves it as he is a world class goalkeeper. He hasnt got many weak points to his goalkeeping. He is very agile and can command the area well. England look to have a good keeper in Nigel. Now he is with a good Premier League team he will get the experience in this bigger competition which he hasnt got at the moment. A good prospect.
When Leeds first signed Nigel Martyn from Crystal Palace, I have to admit that my first thoughts were "Isn't that a bit much for a goalkeeper?", costing more than £3.25 million pounds, this may well have been the bargain of the decade! Since the day he joined Leeds, Nigel Martyn has been an absolute revolution, and for me has been better than any other keeper I have seen in Europe! While initially he had to odd 'rush of blood' and made the odd error, the longer he has been at Leeds, the more experience he has gained, and for me is now the complete Keeper, and undoubtedly the best in the league! Forget the likes of Barthez, Westereweld, De Goey etc. Nigel Martyn is by far and away the best in Britain, and has given so much to Leeds - he is worth 12 points a season to us! Every game he puts in an immaculate performance, and saves he makes are truly unbelievable...Pure magic. How he hasn't got 50 caps for England I will never know...Why successive England bosses continue to pick that aged clown David Seaman is beyond me! He is now error prone and clumsy, and surely they can see that Nigel has everything it takes, and is 4 years Seaman’s junior - the perfect age for a Goalkeeper!
Nigel Martyn has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the country and with the diminishing form of Seamen and no other experienced goal keeper close I think it is time for the Leeds no1 to become Englands No1, Ok he wont be available for the Italy game because he is out until at least December but once the World Cup Qualifiers start again I think he should be the one to be wearing the no1 shirt. Along side him as no2 and 3 we should have some of the tallented youngsters being brought through, the likes of Paul Robinson, Nicky Weaver and Richard Wright.
Despite the fact that he is still in good form for Leeds you can't help but think the Nigel martyn's chanve to establish himself as Englands #1 has come and gone. Anyone with the slightest degree of common sense realises that Martyn should have taken Seamns place after Euro 96. Since then the mullet form arsenal has got progressively worse. However, martyn is getting on himself, and perosnally, i can't see him holding down a place in the England team for long, if that is, he ever gets one. Young keepers like Weaver and Wright are queing up for the England gloves, and with the need to get some young talent into the team, i feel that Martyn will be overlooked. This will be a great shame, because he is a top keeper who has played consistently well for Leeds for many seasons. He will join players like Cole, Southgate and Wise who were kept out of the England team by the shear stupidity of Kevin Keagan in prolonging the international careers of talentless wasters.
Now the only person the the world who thought seaman was better than nigel has gone, its time for the best english keeper in the leauge to move into england's number one spot. This will not come soon enough after seamans botched attempts in recent months ( err well years ) nigel has proved he is capable of being number one and I just dont understand why keegan didnt pick him. Nigel is an excellent shot stopper, great at kicking and has a dominent presense in the box. Hail! Wilkinson might just pick him for finland, we will wait and see.
Lets be honest, how long has Seaman got left in his legs to peform at a International standard? Not long right? Well, who better to replace him but British number one. He is easily the keeper on form at the moment. He performs week in, wekk out for leeds and without him leeds would not be the side they are now. He should be in the England number one spot by next year if not sooner, in my opinion he should already be in.
Having seen Nigel Martyn for years at Crystal Palace I can only say that the acclaim Nigel is getting for his performances now is long overdue. Nigel can pull off the most amazing saves. There are a few 'keepers who I can think of in the same shot-stopping bracket, but none who are better than him. Plenty of times during his time at Palace he earnt us points by himself. From what I hear he is of similar value to Leeds. Furthermore Nigel has worked on the weakest area of his game - crosses. He is now commanding in the area and is pretty much the complete goalkeeper (still not quite sure about his clearances though). On top of all this Nigel is a great guy. He should be England's number one - there's no-one I would trust more between the sticks. He deserves all the success he gets. It really couldn't happen to a nicer person.
Nigel Martyn must take over from David Seaman as England number one as soon as possible. He is a much better all round keeper. David Seaman is not nearly as good as he used to be. To be England number one, you must be a good shot stopper and dominant in the air. He is not as dominant in the air, and is also not as good a shot stopper. Nigel Martyn last season proved that he is both dominant in the air, and a great shot stopper. He deserves the Number 1 shirt for England.
I, think Nigel Martyn should be England's number one.He has started the season for Leeds in excellent form, like he finished last season. But, I do not think their is any point in playing Martyn, for a game, and if he makes a blunder, holding that against him. He his a top class goalkeeper, and should be given a run of ten games, and then be judged. I, think he will do well for England, given the chance. With David Seaman losing it abit, Martyn will be an excellent replacement, he his quality in my view and can make the most remarkablest of saves, and he is reliable unlike David James and the emerging Richard Wright, who are known for blunders. If keegan, was to chose a goalkeeper on merit it would be Martyn, for the last couple of season he has played well, when he played in euro2000 he did well. OK, he missed a cross, which led to a goal, but that could be put down to awful defending. He should be given a chance, and if he doesn't produce then atleast he was given a chance. Don't let Seaman show himself up, by making mistakes, especially when england have a ready made replacement in this man.
Nigel Martyn in my view is currently the best goal keeper in the country, and when I say that I mean he is better at this moment than David Seaman and so Martyn should be England one. If you ask any Leeds fan they will tell you how good he is. I have watched him over the last couple of seasons and he has been very consistent, and has had a lot to do with the success Leeds United as a club have had. I think that now David Seaman should step down as he has served his country as well as he can, now what England need is someone knew, someone with all round ability, and I think Nigel Martyn is that person. He has kept many clean sheets and has developed perfectly over the last season. It was no doubt in my view that he was the best goalie last year. Leeds an having been pushing for him to be number one for ages and now so am I, he is at the right stage of his career, and is playing for a good club and is now playing in Europe hence is getting European experience. I hope that Kevin Keegan realises that Seaman unfortunately is past it and that Martyn is the man to take over England’s goal keeping position. A goalkeeper in my view with all the attributes to be a good goalkeeper for England.
If Nigel Martyn hadn’t been born in the same era as David Seaman he would easily have been England’s choice goalkeeper for a number of years. Disregarding his flump in the Euro Champs he is an immaculate goalkeeper making far less mistakes than Seaman. Even though he has more to do than Seaman (The Arsenal defence has bee far better than Leeds’ over the past few seasons) he makes all the saves and really helps the Leeds’ defence, I’m sure he could bring that to England too. He makes some eye-beholding saves, even when you wouldn’t bet against the striker. He has great ‘reflexes’ and he commands his area. He has been a Leeds hero for some years and if Seaman hadn’t been around he would be an England great. If indeed he had played for Man Utd for the past 10 years I even believe that he would have been in ahead of Seaman long before now, but for some reason the England manager can’t get off a train at Leeds. Let’s hope Martyn gets into the England team for the next 2 or 3 years and shows the world what they missed.
Nigel martyn is one of the worlds best keepers, but he will never be reconised as this because he plays for Leeds, if he played for the man uniteds or real Madrids he would be center of attention. His keeping abbilty is second to none, i watch leeds week in and week out, and without him im sure we would have been realageted in the season where we only scored 27 goals. Our defense trust him so much, and as a leeds fan you always know that if a player skips past your defense you can always hold you breath and hope to see one of nigels magical saves. He's better then seamen was is a great goal keeper but is now old and really is passed it. If you want to hear any credit from a top club just ask AS Roma what they think of nigel as he kept us in the uefa cup last season with at leeds 10 breath stopping saves in the game in italy.
Nigel Martyn is the most consistent keeper in the Premier League. I have seen him play for Leeds for the last few years and he has got better and better and he was pretty darn good to begin with. Unfortunately his international career has been limited by that same old problem that England have; the managers always pick the same players. David Seaman was a great keeper, but he has become very complacent because he is guaranteed a place in both the Arsenal and England teams. Nigel Martyn gets to play in friendlies at internatinal level and so he never gets a proper run in the team. Anyone who has followed his career at Leeds has to admit that he has been absolutely magnificent for the last four seasons or so. He makes the odd mistake but every player does. Most of the time is is solid and reliable and makes some of the most incredible saves I've ever seen. Nigel Martyn is probably one of the best 'keepers in the world and he is certainly Englands number one. Man Utd payed over 4 million for Taibi, what does that make Martyn worth.
Seamen, is almost over the hill internationally, and what great service he has given England, but now it is time for Martyn to come to the front. He is a great shot-stopper, good at crosses and very alert and attentive during play, although one-on-one he isn't always the best. But I do think he is the best around, and for the next few years he can do the job then makeway for Richard Wright to come through and be number one. But at the moment, Martyn is playing top-class football at Leeds and deserves to be England's number one.
