My girlfriend is in love with another man. She loves me, but she also loves him. She has never met this man, nor have I, but she adores him from afar. This man is known as "Smiley" although his real name is Shigeki Maruyama and he is a professional golfer. He is called "Smiley" because he is always smiling when he is on the golf course.

For those who are not familiar with him, please permit me to begin by telling you a little bit about Smiley's professional accomplisments. Smiley has been a very successful athlete. He was the very first Japanese golfer to win over $1 million in a season on the PGA Tour. He is a nine-time winner on the Japan Golf Tour and recently won the $4.5 million Chrysler Classic of Greensboro this past fall and won the Greater Milwaukee Open last year. Perhaps even more impressive (and what made him known internationally) is what he did in 1998 at the Presidents Cup in Australia. It was there that Smiley was named the Most Valuable Player for leading the International Team to its first Presidents Cup victory. In that tournament, Smiley had a perfect 5-0 record in match play!

Smiley is not a very big man. He is only about 170 centimeters tall and weighs about 13 stone. I tell this to my girlfriend when she sees him play and she responds that he may not be as large as me, but he knows how to wield his club and has an impressive swing. And, he is always smiling! My girlfriend likes it when a person smiles. She enjoys the company of happy people.

When we are in bed together, sometimes my girlfriend makes me put on a golf video of Smiley. She likes to watch him swing and play for a bit and then she will ask me to put on my pair of golf shoes and golf gloves. I do this and then climb i
nto bed with her again. She will then turn off the video and turn down the lights and ask me to make love to her while keeping my golf gloves on my hands and my golf shoes on my feet. As we make love, she will call out "Stick it to me Shigeki Maruyama!" and "Oh Smiley!" I do not mind for I know that she only enjoys the fantasy and I like to please her.

Other times, my girlfriend will invite my friend Jung over to our home. She will ask him to come over dressed up as a professional golfer and pretend to be Shigeki Maruyama. She has him come into our bedroom dressed as Shigeki Maruyama and holding a bag of clubs. My girlfriend asks him to stand at the foot of our bed while she and I make love. She asks Jung to critique our love making. She has him call out instructions such as "keep your eye on the ball" and "hold firmly onto the club" and "keep your legs further apart" and "more to the left" and "do not be afraid to swing hard" and "follow through" and "drive deeper." This really seems to excite my girlfriend and my friend Jung does not seem to mind having to pretend to be Shigeki Maruyama and having to stand in our bedroom shouting instructions while we make love. He is a very good friend to us.

When we are finished, she will ask Jung to score how we did. He will then tell us whether it was a double eagle, eagle, birdie, par, bogey or double bogey. Sometimes, when it has gone exceptionally well, Jung will call out "hole in one!" and he will have a big smile on his face.

So far this year, Smiley is ranked 56th on the "money list." I hope that he has a good year for it will make my girlfriend very happy to see him winning and smiling. And when my girlfriend is happy and smiling, I
am happy and smiling.
