However, in what was to signal the beginning of years of agony, David May suffered a serious knee injury, as fate would have it, shortly after being added to the England National squad. The rest of the season for May was spent mostly receiving treatment for his injury, and he could only look on as Pallister and Johnsen forged a useful partnership in ... more

Premium Review David May: A Real Bad Luck Story (984 words)

In these days of high wages and massive transfer fees, it is somewhat hard to feel sorry for top-flight footballers. However, there are a couple of exceptions to this rule, and surely one of the most prominent is David May. The centre-back was making a real name for himself at Blackburn Rovers, with competent displays which showed off his great ability to read the game, as well as the fact that he was a fine header of the ball and a solid, determined tackler who's performances showed real grit and tenacity. He was signed by Manchester United from title rivals Rovers, in time for the 1994/'95 Premiership season, and was looked upon by man as the ...  Read the complete review

It's quite sad that such a well liked and talented player really has little hope of ever getting back into the United team. He was such a good defender when we signed him - probably still is - with determination and a certain presence. He wasn't a star defender by any means - he was just there, unnoticed, doing his job well, holding off attackers and playing them out of the game. When he returns to full fitness he has a mammoth task ahead of him to get anywhere near the starting line-up. The squad has grown and improved somewhat since he last played. With players like Stam, Brown, Johnson, Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre in front of him now ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review David May: A Real Shame ! (304 words)

David May has talent. As a defender he is quick, strong and reads the game well. Yet throughout his United career he has been dogged by bad luck. It started soon after his move from Blackburn (he obviously saw the light) Due to a major injury list he was sent to right back (not his position) and was promptly destroyed by Jesper Blomqvist of Gothenburg and Romario of Barca. This led to many United fans hating him, unfairly as he was in the wrong position. Next it was revealed that he was a lifelong City fan (surely bad luck on its own) and again he got a slating. His fortunes upturned during a 1-0 home win over Blackburn, when he made several ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review What a waste of talent. (171 words)

David May joined Manchester United as one of the most talented defenders in the country and now a few years on he is nothing but a reserve player! David May joined Manchester United from rivals Blackburn Rovers. The was a lot of bad feeling at Ewood Park at the time because he was joining arch rivals.David May had played for England a few times and seemed to have a bright future. His Manchester United career started off ok but he never really settled in. His passing was never really up to scratch and was often dropped from the team for no real reason. May has been in and out of the team over the past couple of years but has never been given a fair chance. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review David May: Could Be a Star ...  (229 words)

David May is a good defender, though he is getting a little old now, it is likely he still has something in him. When he was in his prime, he had a great partnership with the back four players - Pallister, Bruce even Paul Parker. At one point, he was going to go onto the transfer list - for him, this would have been a good idea as at the time, there were many players being brought in to United, Japp Stam and Mikael Silvestre for example. He is in the reserve team - but has not played in the first for a couple of seasons. If I were him, I would go. There are a couple of things he could do, It is likely he would not find a place in the premiership as ...  Read the complete review
