collingwood21 | Another excellent review Robin, and as an archaeologist I always welcome people promoting ethical and legal metal detecting - you would be surprised the number of times the WHS of Hadrians Wall has been targeted despite being a scheduled site. I would just like to add that the latest law on Treasure Trove covers the Portable Antiquities Scheme. In theory, every region should have a liasons officer who deals with detector finds and museums - they are there to ensure the recording of where fins came from. If your area doesnt have an officer yet, still report anything archaeological you find to a local museums service. | 20/03/02 |

My husband has had one for years and has spent many an hour on the beach or the moors..what I have noticed is the amount of people that stop him to ask what he's found either that day or before..it is a real conversation starter...people are fascinated by it..some even ask for a go!! So if you find it difficult to meet people get yourself a metal detector..they will come flocking!!!
