Microchipping for PetsNewest Review: ... I wanted a way for people to identify him, just in case he ever runs off or God forbid, is in an accident. It's really, really easy to do. Just ask the vet, it cost about £20 and all they do is insert a very small chip under the cat's skin at the back of their neck, in between their shoulder blades. I can't say the cat enjoyed the experience, but he was fine afterwards. I signed up to Pet ... more |

I microchipped my cat about 18 months ago, after he started taking his collar off (no, I do not know how he manages this but I used to get home from work to find his collar neatly next to him, I am presuming he would not allow a stanger to get near him, he is not a friendly cat), because of this I wanted a way for people to identify him, just in case he ever runs off or God forbid, is in an accident. We had our Tom cat microchipped when he was done, and then our female was chipped a few years later. I've never really thought much about it until i have read some of the reviews on hear about their lost cats being returned. I had started thinking that it was probably more worthwhile schipping dogs as people kind of assume a dog has been lost if it is wandering alone down the street, whereas cats are always out and about by themselves - so how would anyone know that the cat was lost... but after reading reviews i guess if you posted leaflets with photos then someone saw the cat then they would take it to the vets etc. We actaully found a dog wandering around a ... ~~*~~ Microchipping ~~*~~ Long before I'd chosen Pig (I've given up calling her by her real name, Doughnut, (who is the greatest chocolate lab that ever lived) as she's really started living up to her name) I knew she had to be chipped. After all, it's only common sense to mark a valuable item with an identity tag - similar to marking your plasma TV with an ultraviolet pen, only imagine sticking that pen directly into the aerial socket. Perhaps it would be frugal at this point to tell you a wee bit about the ingenuity of micro-chipping. ~~ Chips are good for your critter ~~ In 2007, 30% of strays were reunited with their owners all ... It was oonly fater a nsaty experinece with a burglar, who very considerately left my back door open, so that my indoor cat can escape, that I looked into the option of microchipping. I discussed it with my vet, and he explained it is a little microchip inserted with the use of a needle underneath the skin between the animal's shoulder blades. It emits a sort of radio wave, that can be read by a handheld scanner, and can therefore be used in identifyng your pet. The nuber of the microchip corrseponds to a number held ona national database, and is linked to my personal details, including adress and phine number. So should one of your precious pets ever get ... Read the complete review

I never really thought much about the fact that my cats were microchipped. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but there wasn't really any reason to give it much more thought after that particular trip to the vet. Until our beautiful ginger cat went missing. We put up posters and posted little leaflets to everyone in the nearby roads. Then several people called us and said they had seen two young girls carrying a ginger cat up the road a little way away from where we lived. We had all but given up hope, when we get a call from the RSPCA! Someone had found our cat about a mile and a half away from where we live, and taken ... Read the complete review
