Advantages: Miller Park is a great place to watch baseball, especially when full

Disadvantages: Can't think of any

The Milwaukee Brewers are a baseball team who play in the National League Central division, alongside teams from Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cincinatti and Houston. They have a relatively short history, having only been a Major League baseball team since 1967 (they actually began their life as the Seattle Pilots, but as is often the way with American sports franchises, they were moved three years later to Milwaukee, a city which had itself seen their team move away four years earlier to Atlanta)

The Brewers have achieved very little of note in their 40 years of existence, save for a World Series appearance in 1982 when they were still members of the American League (they moved to the National League in 1998) However now is a very good time to be a Brewers fan. Last year they made it to the play-offs thanks in no small part to star pitcher CC Sabathia, who was signed midway through the year on a short term contract to help the team, despite there being no hope of him staying beyond the end of the season. (Sabathia has ended up at the New York Yankees, who were able to pay him the kind of money which Milwakeee were never going to be able to match)

This year the Brewers are again in contention, with rising stars Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun leading the way. I visited their stadium a couple of weeks ago for a Friday night game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Miller Park (one of a new breed of baseball stadia, opened in 2001) was packed to the rafters, with over 42,000 in attendance. The atmosphere was electric, and had it rained there would have been no problem, as the stadium has a retractable roof. Given that the city is only an hour and a half north of Chicago, I would highly recommend a visit to anyone with anything more than a passing interest in baseball.

Summary: A team on the up
