Are footballers overpaid? My immediate reaction to that question was: "of course they are, have you seen what they get a week?" However, after I had a thought to make sure I had considered the issue before I wrote I thought of other factors and it made me reconsider a little. ~~ Players are Overpaid ~~ The first and most obvious point to this side of the argument is that the average pay for a premiership footballer is £50,000 per WEEK. Sad but not overly surprising. It doesn't really surprise me. The day football became a business it was the market that would decide. There seems little point in calls to regulate football or put a cap on wages (all arguements that have been put forward prior to todays announcement) as this would only put off players from coming to our 'green and pleasant land'! I also find it amusing when the media announces that wages have broken through the x barrier as this will surely always be the case whether they have risen out of proportion or not as wages usually rise with the cost of living anyway.
