Colin Montgomerie

Colin Montgomerie is a true sporting legend. Unfortunately this tends to be lost in the tabloid press who label him as grumpy, miserable and fat. He is an honest man whose opinions can be contraversial, but always well judged. This makes him an easy target for abuse in the press, and in the States, by the spectators. How can he recieve such unfair press. He can be grumpy- but not when he is playing well. Look at Tiger when he plays badly-throwing clubs, swearing and glaring-nobody seems to write about that. A lot of people seem to be writing off Colin Montgomrie off now that he has lost the Order of Merit. They seem to think that the younger players like Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke will reign supreme. I disagree totally with that. Now that he does not have to worry about retaining the Order of Merit he can choose where and when he plays therefore making him fresher and a lot more dangerous! Before he lost the Order of Merit Colin felt honour bound to try and do his best to retain it, thus playing more tournaments than he would ideally like to have done. Colin Montgomerie could win a Major if he could just keep his temper under control. Is he a bottler? Yes. He is a fine golfer, not in the Tiger Woods class (who is?) but he could be a contender. Indeed, he regularly is a contender and he has headed the European Money list for quite some time. The thing that goes against him is his temperament. He constantly looks like he is on the verge of exploding with rage and that has to work against him. True champions can keep their cool and Monty can't.
