Newest Review: ... that my old 1995 registration car was worth to replace it, I assume it is something (a)big, and (b)critical. We were assured by the garage that the car would be safe to drive over the next few weeks, but that ultimately we couldn't expect it to keep going more than two months (a bit of a nuisance when you consider the cost of brake pads, but at least the car could brake efficiently in the ... more

... last few trips of its life!). This left the inevitable prospect of a new car; exciting, but also slightly daunting given the rather tight time frame I had to deal with it and my aforementioned lack of car-related knowledge. The other concern was how to be...more

Crowned Review More Motors Forum: How To Recycle Your Car (1042 words)

This is a novel experience for me, writing in a motors category (even if it is in speakers corner). I'll readily admit that I know next to nothing about cars (about from how to drive them, tax them, insure them, MOT them, and feed them petrol, that is) so you might wonder what I am doing wandering into this section on dooyoo. Well, recent experience has suggested that I might just have something useful to bring to our community motor-wise: a little review on how to recycle your old car. To begin at the beginning, early in February, after not having been in my car for some time, I noticed that it had started to make a strange rumbling sound when I drove it. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review New Diesel Car Buyers Beware (2315 words)

This is a bit of a change to my normal reviews, it is not about going out, eating, or drinking, it is about an oh so interesting diesel particulate filter! Now I am treating this as a bit of a challenge, since my knowledge of cars goes as far as "that's a green car" or maybe "that car has metallic paint", and as for my knowledge of the inner workings of a car or their parts - well that's man domain. After my last statement, before I go into my review, I think I should add that women are just as capable of fiddling with car parts as men (there I did my bit for womanistness). For anyone who is anywhere near technical, please note, this ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review More Motors Forum: For Aefra: Hilda Micra Turbo (749 words)

I hate cars and I don't like driving. I passed my driving test back when President Kennedy was still in the White House and between then and 1990 I drove a car only when it was absolutely essential. When I drove there were curses on my lips and fear on the faces of any passengers. In 1990 that which I was dreading happened. I moved to a job in an office in the red light area of Bradford. At the time women were regularly accosted even in broad daylight. One day I was walking to the railway station carrying quite a large arrangement of flowers when I was propositioned. All I could think to say was "And what do you think I'm going to do with the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Aefra's Challenge - Sorry Jill I Must Need Shooting! (553 words)

So many challenges are going around at the moment so I've decided to offer my contribution to Aefra's challenge about a motor that brings back memories. For me cars are a means of getting from 'a' to 'b' and not much more, I'm not really bothered what it looks like, how fast it can go or how much it cost, however I do remember a time when our car was my pride and joy. In the late fifties my parents bought an Austin 12, Austin were still building pre war model cars until about 1947 when they introduced their new model, I think that was the Austin 16, so our Austin 12 must have been about ten years old when my parents acquired ...  Read the complete review
