Advantages: easier job
Disadvantages: none
I've been taxiing for about ten years and I love it. All those people that criticise taxi-drivers off should try doing our job for a weekend. I personally have been attacked and had numourous runners. We have to deal with all the drunks being abusive or being sick or trying to run off without paying. As well as that we have to listen to drunk women crying about their boyfriend's or listen to that one question that's asked by every-one (is it busy mate?)at least five or six times every journey. On top of all that we have to work out where were going and which way to go. Most of us work long hours all year round in all weathers. I know that we drive faster than we should but to us time is money. How many accident's have you heard of when it's the taxi-driver's fault, not many I'll bet. So next time you are criticising us, just think, without us,you'd have to walk. On another note the car that I drive is a Vauxhall Carlton 2.0GLi. Where I work in Chester 80% of taxis are Vauxhalls and at least 60% are Carltons. You won't in my opinion find a better car for the job. The engines seem to go forever, and do about 26 mpg, the bodywork lasts just as well. Inside the seats are extremely comfortable, there is plenty of leg room both front and back while the boot you could get lost in. Carltons come in a range of models, (GL,GLi,CDi,CDXi,Diplomat,GSi3000)engines range from 1.8 to 3.0L. You can pick up a decent Carlton for as little as £400 on a E Reg. So if your looking for a decent family car and your on a limited budget look no further than the Carlton.

- 14/02/01 Just one question: Why do cabbies always drive around in
3rd gear?

- 31/12/00 Hi buddy
Greetings from a fellow taxi-driver here in Dublin, Ireland. Good opinion, and I couldn't agree with you more.
Most of the cars over here are Jappers, though.
I'm on my third Nissan Bluebird myself. Great cars.
Anyway, good luck for now, and all the best to you and yours for 2001

- 28/09/00 Yeah, this is a great review I have always thought taxi drivers have a tough job, weird hours and have to take all sorts of abuse etc etc, I have often found Black Cab drivers to be some of the most genuine and friendly people I have met, willing to chat to you about anything, but they have a great knack of knowing when you aint in the mood for a chat too and leave you be!! Great to see a guy who enjoys his job no matter what challenges he faces... Well done |
