Motorway service stations are a vital part of long distance driving as they are an ideal place to stop for a break without having to head right off the beaten track. Many are equipped with all of the relaxation and hunger killing tools. It is with these that they start to overcharge obscenly. When I am travelling South to relatives, we ... Let me start by saying that I like others do find the cost of service stations to be extortionate. But I do see the reasoning behind them. Service stations cost massive amounts to build, they have to build exits and entries from the Motorway and have stringent regulations to comply with. They are required to be open 24 hours a day 365 ... Read the complete review

Everyone knows about Motorway service stations don't they? The easiest way to fill your stomach and empty your wallet has long been a bone of contention among British Motorists. To start off with, just take a look at the quality. Although it varies from brand to brand, branch to branch, you are certainly not getting what you pay for. Be it ... Read the complete review

For the best part of twenty years I travelled Britains high roads,B roads and Motorways in the pursuit of red rosettes at dog shows..And during that period must have partaken of refreshments at every Motorway Service Station in the U.K. and in quite a few 'greasy spoon' trucking stops.. In those days we rated Keele on the M6 as the ... Read the complete review

Motorway services - love them or hate them, we've all used them at some point, wether it be as some where to stop off for the loo or somewhere to get a bite to eat and a cup of coffee. The thing about them is that for far too long they've all been guilty of holding the motorist to ransom. Quite often you'll drive down a ... Read the complete review

Motorway service stations are the apparent driver's haven, spaced at regular intervals along major roads, a place where you can rest your weary body and recharge for the road ahead... ...and also spend ridiculous sums on anything and everything. What is it with these service stations which lets them think that they can charge us just ... Read the complete review

In my previous job, I spent quite a lot of time driving between Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield. Being in IT support this is often your lot. My expenses were reimbursed at the end of the month in my salary. Not using credit cards (pet hate #3) I spent cash. At the end of the month, I had spent over £300 on food alone in service ... Question: How much is a can of coke? Answer: Wholesale about 20p a can, retail about 35p a can, Motor way services rip-off centres about £1 a can. A mark up of 400% on one product, imagine the profit margin on every product or service available at the service stop. I have heard their arguments defending these exorbitant ... As with most things British, if you can find a monopoly then you can charge whatever you like. This is true of Service Stations. They really do have a very cushy little monopoly. Once their position is established on a stretch of otherwise empty motorway, they are set for life. What choice do we have. We all know what its like, you find ... Read the complete review

I worked for a motorway service station, a few years ago. When I first started I was gung-ho to do well and work hard. I stayed for a month. After a few days I began to see how mean and miserly they were. I would get a request for a full breakfast, and would have to give them 1 sausage, 1 egg, 1 slice of bacon a disgusting slice of the ... Read the complete review

I do a lot of travelling and seem to spend a great deal of time in motorway services and the by and away the best that I have visited is First services. All motorway services seem to charge excessive prices - I can't see that there is a lot to choose between them and First is no real exception. Its the little things which makes ... The motorway services all vary these days, but personally we always use the granada services when ever we can. This is because of the special offers that are available to get reductions in meal costs at the motorway services. Every time we have a trip planned, I go off on my hunt for money off vouchers, and I always get them, with out fail, ... Read the complete review

Service stations are the 'pet-hate' of many drivers, or should I say, their PRICES are. And no wonder. I can understand why a meal in the restaurant would be a little more expensive, when you take into account the staff costs, overheads etc, but what I don't understand why prices in the shop need to be so high. ... Being a traveller from Scotland to Wales on a fairly regular basis...and by Scotland I mean up north...I find service stations such a benefit. I remember the days when, once you were over the border into Scotland, you had to wait until morning to find a garage for petrol or a cafe for a cuppa and a wee. As most of the travelling we do is ... Read the complete review
