First time ever on video! The legendary Cliff Richard pays tribite to the music of five decades in this spectacular performance, with renditions not only of his own hits but also the most popular songs of our time. Recorded at the N.I.A in Birmingham last year,The Countdown Concert takes us from the 1950s to current times, showcasing the talents of Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bill Haley, Art Garfunkel and Bryan Adams, as well as Cliff Richard singing some of his all-time classic tracks. Joined by the electrifying guitar playing of Hank Marvin, as his special guset star, this is one show not to be missed!! The show starts with Hank coming on playing guitar, then on comes Cliff dressed in white suit, black shirt and white tie, he looked fantastic. The stage is set in the centre of the arena with the 10,000 audience all around him. They start of in the 50's with Bill Haleys Rock around the clock, This being the best selling Rock'n'roll record of all time. Then he does the Elvis medley, mentioning that if it wasn't for Elvis there would be no Cliff!!! He starts with teddy bear (while singing this a couple of fans come up from the audience to give him two teddy bears!!) going through to all shook up and jailhouse rock. he then goes on to do his own Classic rock'n'roll hit move it!, this being his very first recording in 1958.reaching number 2 in the charts. After singing a few other rock'n'roll hits he invites Russel Watson on to sing I believe. He starts off the 60's joined by Hank singing his million selling hit "the young ones", other 60's hits include The Searchers hit "needles and pins", and the beatles "she loves you". Then Hank is left to do his own hit "Apache", which takes us into the 70's, Cliff starts off singing the title track from his hit album "I'm nearly famous", during which he gets picked up by his dancers and lifted
in the air!! He then sings the longest running no.1 of the 70's Art Garfunkels "bright eyes", the song from the film watership down. then he sings his number one hit from 1979, his biggest hit ever "we don't talk anymore", before leaving Hank Marvin to play "don't cry for me Argentina" The next thing you know all the lights go out and as they gradually come up again Cliff is lowered from the ceiling dressed in a multi coloured space suit, with invisible strings attached, and as he starts to sing his hit "sci fi" he starts floating up in the air doing all sorts of acrobatic movements, just as if he's in space. he is then taken back up, and after a 20 minute break (although you don't get this break on the video!!) he is lowered from the ceiling in a metal cage, changed out of his space suit. dressed in black pin stripe trousers, white shirt and black waistcoat (how he got changed up there I don't know!!) This takes us into the 80's which he sings his Stock Aitken and Waterman hit "I just don't have the heart" going through to do a medley of his hits written be Alan Tarney, some people. a little in love and remember me. He then performs his hit from the musical "time" it's in every one of us.and his christmas number one of 1988 "mistletoe and wine". Hank Marvin then comes back on to do The Shadows hit of the 80's "riders in the sky", Cliff finishes the 80's with his hit "can't keep this feeling in". Russel Watson is introduced back on stage to sing "Nessum Dorma" the big hit for Pavarotti. Next comes the 90's Cliff walks on stage with "his bride" to re-enact the wedding scene from his hit musical Heathcliff, and sings the hit song "I do not love you Isabella", he then sings one of my absolute favourite songs of all time the longest record to stay at number one, with a record
16 weeks, Bryan Adams "every thing I do ( I do it for you) Cliff sings this just as good as Bryan Adams, if not better!!. Cliff is then joined by Vincenzo La Scola to do "Vita Mia" a song from his album "Real as I wanna be". Cliff then introduces a new singer Barratt Waugh, to sing a song called Lucy, quite a nice song but personally I didn't like his voice very much, sounds a bit like a girl. Cliff then sings his hit "human work of art" joined by some dancers doing a bit of sexy dancing with him (jealous or what!!!) He finishes of this fantastic concert with his number one christmas hit of 1990 "saviours day" followed by his number one hit of last year "millenium prayer" before singing this he goes on to say that DJ's think it's cool to play what they like, but it's also cool to play what we like!!! not that he needed air play for this record, it made it to number one for three weeks with hardly any air play!!! only someone like Cliff can do that!!! A truly and utterly superb performer!!! whether your a Cliff fan or not I really recommend you watch this video, it relly does prove he can sing ANYTHING!!! 145 minutes of sheer enjoyment!!!

- 04/11/00 I wouldn't say he's my favourite, but he has certainly done well and I quite enjoy listening to him. I did meet him a couple of times. Once when he came to sing at our school assembly, would you believe, (friends with the headmaster, or something) |
